I am experiencing profuse sweating off during the day and nightly. Is this common post Covid?

Has anyone found anything that helps profuse sweating?

When I had a covid infection last November 2022, I was given Paxlovid for 5 days only and though it helped me with symptoms it didn’t last when I had to stop the medication.. I started getting sweats during the night at first but it began to happen during the day too. I also had palpitations with sweating so it reminded me of menopause which I never had as bad as this was. I did get checked out for my heart but nothing came up thankfully but I was still sweating with rapid heart beats. I began to notice that whenever I was stressed or even upset about something minor I would feel the sweating start again…I didn’t take anything for it because I don’t feel meds that interfere with body function like sweating isn’t healthy but it’s only my opinion, instead I chose to see if it would get better over time and it did. I found it very helpful to drink lots of water and cold water really cools down your inner core, it stopped the sweating for me.. I felt it was a better way to cool down instead of going outside in the cold, this would be risky for getting sick. I hope it is helpful for you, try to keep going and know that the symptoms will subside eventually. I think that getting upset with the symptoms and going to the doctor who doesn’t really know what to do for you and giving more meds that may be helpful..this will make you more nervous and your symptoms will return..I hope my suggestion will give you some peace of mind, amen.

Hi @dr4bama - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Sweating does seem to be a pretty common side effect of COVID-19, unfortunately. I know it can get very uncomfortable throughout the day!
Others have discussed ongoing fevers with sweating as a side effect on this discussion post, you may find it helpful to read through:
- Fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/fevers-weeks-after-covid/

Have you continued to have a fever at all in your recovery? Have any other symptoms continued?

You are not alone! I had it during the big freeze as well. The sweating is crazy, my arms will start to tingle then all of a sudden I'll just start sweating. Anywhere, comfortable setting, not hot, sitting doing nothing and no stressful situations.
I also smell like something is burning.
That is not so constant.
I asked my doc for a referral for an endocrinologist. I was refused. Gotta stop the madness since I never sweat before. Thanks for sharing take care.

I have been a LH for over a year. Same here with the sweating, and if it’s really hot out I get the tingling that feels like stinging nettles. I used to be a lounge lizard in the summer, now I’m a couch potato.
And the burning smell… oh brother right?
Along with too many other symptoms. I agree “stop the madness”!
I’m thankful that it’s not worse but looking forward to a day when I am normal again

I got Covid Lador Day Weekend this yr. I still have a lot of sinus pressure and dry cough. What I don't like is I breakout into the worst sweats, daytime, not not at night. Starts at my forehead. No fever, no aches or pains. This is week 2, sure hope they disappear soon.

I also have the heavy sweating along with palpitations…I had covid last November and this is when it began… I had a heart check up and nothing was found…it’s now been nine months with little to no change..they don’t have much to help us with the symptoms and the more we stress about it the more you’re going to feel worse…I have a few other symptoms like buzzing in my ears and bad tremors in my hands. I don’t know how or when they will be able to treat us properly for our symptoms but for now we have to move forward and try to cope until they get more educated with the effects of covid.

I had problem with the sound before. That time, I couldn't stand the noise at all but I am thankful that it has gone away!
I can say that the meditation helps to calm me down for stress and anxiety. I also gain confident from there too.
I may try the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
For us, I think we need to take one step a day and every day a little bit.
Hope you have a blessed Sunday.

Almost 3 years and I still sweat at night. Also the heart palpitations and out of breath symptoms. It was better for a while but has just returned.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Since all the doctors know very little about COVID and nothing about long COVID, your experiences help explain some of the problems caused by COVID. I too suffer from long COVID. The first time I caught it was in 12/20. I have been diagnosed with COPD, and 7 thoracic vertebrae bulging, after coughing so hard. I also have intermittent sweating, tinnitus, weight loss, fatigue, and body vibrations. In 9/21, I caught a milder case of COVID. In the past 2 months, the sweating has been less frequent and severe, especially at night so far. The tinnitus has been less severe and I have actually had a couple of weeks of no ear noise after cleaning my ears several times. It's back, but not as severe. I found that holding my nose and blowing hard to equalize ear pressure can help a lot. The body vibrations has gotten better as well. I use to wake up most mornings around 3-4 AM from the sweating and body vibrations and stiffness. I have Fibromyalgia since 2010 and just felt that I was in a really bad flare for 2 years. My newest problem that popped up 2-3 months ago is facial hair growth, the peach fuzz has gone wild.

I thought it was just me! I seem to be growing more (and faster) facial hair, while the hair on my head falls out!
This virus is a crazy, crazy thing!
