Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

@dianestanley Evenity and Prolia are made by the same company and the site tells docs to follow Evenity with Prolia. The question is, how are you going to get off Prolia? If you are old enough that may not be a problem 🙂 But if not, you will have to go on Reclast anyway and the timing of that is very tricky in order to avoid the quick bone loss and increase in fracture risk from going off Prolia. This is all info from my doc and also covered in McCormick's book "Great Bones." Wishing you luck. I am the same point and with kidney disease may end up on Prolia due to no other options, but am first trying a small dose of Reclast. I cannot take alendronate due to GERD. No good options!

McCormick says you can follow up Evenity with Fosomax or others not just Prolia. Of course the company that meis Evenity encourages you to follow up with their other drug. After some issues on Evenity I decided on Fosomax as it’s been around a long time. Having DEXA this month so will see if gains are holding.

I had Reclast infusions for three years. Bone density kept decreasing, so I’m getting my first Evenity injection on Tuesday. Yes, I’m a worried - but it’s my only option at this point. After a year, I was hoping to go back in Reclast infusions, but my rheumatologist said I would go on Prolia. Has anyone gone on Reclast after Evenity instead of Prolia?

Kristie2,
I’m still on Evenity. I went to dentist before starting Evenity. She said I was okay to start the drug.
I also saw my neurologist who ordered a brain mri and a carotid artery ultrasound. Also, saw cardiologist who said he was okay with Evenity.
So far, so good.
I’m starting to think about what I’m going to take after.
The oral meds may be a problem as I have GERD.

I’m a newcomer too Evenity & having side effects. I’m trying too hang in there but wonder what drug too try next? I have bad gum recession & teeth issues. I started Prolia & all the dental specialists told me too get off Prolia. So I did & now on Evenity. My Rheumatologist wanted me too go on Forteo but I couldn’t afford the high cost. Medicare & Lily the manufacturer both denied coverage or assistance. How I wish there was a safer drug for all of us who need too strengthen our bones. Evenity is the newest member but a lot is still unknown. There has too be better options for all of us! Wishing you the best of luck!

@laverne23 Reclast is recommended by my doc, who never uses Prolia if he can help it. If Reclast is not possible, then alendronate (Fosamax).

Actonel and Fosomax don’t work for me. They cause extreme gastro issues.

Are there age issues with taking evenity. My doctor is worried about giving evenity to a person over about 75.

I did the 12 shots of Evenity ending in July 2023. This drug has added new bone. I am supposed to take the Prolia shot now twice per year. It is harding the bones with what the Evenity shots created. I get the first shot of Prolia next week. My back surgeon feels that my bones are strong enough now to finally do my infusion surgery to fix my back due to my injury two years ago. I still can't stand or walk over 4 or 5 minutes.

Just started evenity and my endocrinologist is suggesting prolia post evenity. Would be very Interested to know what your prolia journey is like when you begin.

@gravity3 you can take Reclast, alendronate or Prolia after Evenity, I have been told. My docs don't use Prolia but others do.

@laverne23 I have GERD and can't take actonel or Fosamax either. I have to do Reclast after Tymlos and doc is giving me a 20% dose to test my tolerance. My nephrologist wants me to drink a lot of salty fluids the day before, day of and day after and I will request a slow infusion. I just got word that I am approved for IV hydration before and during the infusion. Fingers crossed. I don't want to lose my gains on Tymlos and feel I am between a rock and a hard place with kidney issues.
