Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

I did have insomnia for one week after my first set of shots on Evenity. I normally sleep fine except when I’m worrying about something. Thankfully whatever it was I am now sleeping just fine. During that week I was also very nauseous & couldn’t get food down. Thankfully I’m eating fine now. Next week I get my next set of shots. This will be the true test. I’m giving it one last try & hopefully I’ll do fine. Best of luck too you!

Hi lab54, I am wondering how you are doing now, a month later from your August 12 posting. I am due to start tomorrow with my first Evenity infusion. I have neuropathy in my feet that gets in the way of a good night's sleep for thirty years now. And sometimes, also, too much energy to go to sleep. My concern is the neuropathy because tingling in feet is one possible side effect that is mentioned. Did the doctors tell you why you felt nauseous? I don't remember reading that as a side effect.

I completed one year of Evenity in July. My bone density improved! My spine T-score went from -3.0 to -2.1 which is a 13.5% improvement (the percentages are calculated using the bone density values measured in g/cm sq). My total femoral mean improved from -1.8 to -1.5 which is a 4% gain. I had no side effects except for minor swelling at the injection site in my belly which went away after a day. I have gone on Reclast to lock in my gains. It is an annual infusion for 3 years. I didn't like the sound of Prolia because you must take it for life and Fosamax due acid reflux issues. Over the year, I took 500 mg calcium plus Vit D supplements daily, took walks and did yoga once a week. I added frequent weight training over the last 3 months. It is hard to do everything suggested, but did the best I could. I highly recommend Evenity based on my experience.

Wow, that is great news. I am to get my first Evenity infusion tomorrow and have a negative three point eight on the spine Dexa image. And also eryosion in pelvic bone. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. I am to start Evenity tomorrow afternoon. How are you feeling after the first shot? Did anyone tell you why Reclast did not help? In fact, why it got worse!

I am feeling fine after my first shot. I was very tired yesterday, but I think it was from all the stress and concern I had about getting the shots. I was told about it in March, and it took me until now to actually take it. I have had two falls with fractures in the last three years (patella then left hip). I believe that’s why they went the Evenity route.

I don’t know if you have had your shots yet or not. But after much research and reading comments from others, I decided to get my shots in my belly. I also took them out of the fridge about three hours before my appointment so it was totally at room temperature. I also put an ice pack on the area after each shot to lessen any swelling (the nurse provided the ice pack). Hope this bit of information on my experience helps 😀

Thank you for sharing. By "just started" do you mean one day ago? Have you had any side effects at all? I am to start my infusions tomorrow afternoon.

I had my fourth Evenity injections last week. I don’t seem to have any side effects other than some fatigue the day after.

I am responding here to both of your posts. My first shot of Evenity will be today at 2:30 pm. I will ask the nurse about the location on my body for the shots: I think they said the shoulders and it takes a half hour: maybe they mean I have to rest afterward. Both of your comments are really helpful Laverne. Just talking with someone who has the experience is reassuring. So many factors at play in our situation! I am hoping for the very best results for us.

That is so good to hear, Susan. Thank you for sharing. This afternoon is my first treatment. Of course your positive result is very reassuring.

There is much controversy over dairy but the calcium content is not in dispute. Really just depends upon whether you have the appropriate enzymes to digest it (lactase to digest the lactose) or whether there are allergies (more likely to the casein content) or autoimmune issues which might contraindicate consuming.

One of the more absorbable forms of calcium from supplements is the citrate form which can be taken on an empty stomach.

Thank you for sharing. With reference to the absorption of calcium, I have read that we can only absorb 500 mg at any given time, so I am looking for that size in the vitamins department at Kinney's or any drug store.

I’m hoping I can make it through the year of Evenity, second shots are today. I had a horribly sore arm the day of and day after the first shots, as well as a few nights where I barely slept. If it doesn’t get worse than that and I can improve my -4.3 spine score, it would be worth it.

I got my shots in the belly fat which is an option you might try.
