EP Leadless Pacemaker & AV Node Ablation

Posted by vickylj @vickylj, May 14, 2023

I’ve have 4 ablations, 3 heat in Mn. Had a cold one in MO. I’ve been on every medications possible. And I’m back in a-fib worse than ever. My Dr. wants to put in a pacemaker in and do an ablation on my AV Node. Which will cut off the electricity going thru my heart. ( I will still have afib, but won’t feel it. So unfortunately my heart will be running totally thru the pacemaker. I am getting really nervous about this. Anyone have any advice-comments- have had this procedure done??
Give me some input if you will.
Thanks Vicky J.

Hello @ev1

Going into this procedure with optimism is great! It sounds like you have tried many other options to treat the A-Fib, and this is recommended by your doctor as the next step. Of course, none of us can make this decision for you. That said, please know that if a second opinion would make you feel more comfortable, it is within your right to get another opinion.

If I were facing this decision, I would also be optimistic. Your attitude is the one thing that is in your control right now.

Do you currently have a date scheduled for this procedure?

No date yet but my cardiologist reassured me that I won't be waiting long. So hopefully in the next few weeks. I will be great to get it over with & get on with my life. I am just tired of cardioversions and ablations and betablockers. He said that I would be coming off betablockers which is a huge plus. So I can only see the positive of having this procedure. Fingers crossed.

I am due to have an ablate & pace soon. I have had 3 anlations but have not been successful. To be honest I am looking forward to the procedure. My cardiologist says I will have a better quality of life and I will feel better. I am very anxious with the afib but I feel if I am not aware of it, fingers crossed, the anxiety will ease. Am I too naive and optimistic?

Hello, this may help relieve some of your anxiety.
I’ve dealt with afib for over 15 years. I also had a stroke 15 years ago. So lucky to not have much after effects. I’ve literally been on every pill available, seems like my body became immune to them.
I have had 4 ablations, and countless conversions.
Finally another fix, consider it the last resort for me.
Exactly what your having done,
Implanted pacemaker and a av node ablation. For me it was lifesaver. I can’t say how happy I am to have made that big decision with my heart and my life. Also I trusted my doctor.
Best wishes to you,❤️
Please keep us posted of your recovery. Be thinking of you,
Vicky J.
