Posted by heritage1955 @heritage1955, Apr 1, 2016

Hi. I'm new to the site and am interested in treating osteoperosis. I'm 39 yo and recently had a bone density that showed I'm at -2.4. So, going through the intial "I can't believe it" stuff. 🙂

Agree! It can be stressful and hard to stand up for yourself when doctors push hard for patients to take these meds, but as you said, we must be our own advocate for our bodies.

DAMN you poor thing. Are you sure you can stop Prolia? Can I suggest a book written by Dr. Lani Simpson: Dr. Lani's No-Nonsense Bone Health Guide : The Truth about Density Testing, Osteoporosis Drugs and Building Bone Quality at Any Age. She knows more about this topic than anyone I have yet to find.

Am just now reading this book and learning SO much....wish I would have had the knowledge prior to going on prolia 7 years ago!!!

I, too, am interested in treatments for osteoporosis at a younger (50) age; however, postmenopausal. I found Dr. Lani's Bone Health Guide book helpful. I'm wary of beginning medical treatments (Forteo for 18-24 months and then a bisphosphonate for 5-7 years) based on one BMD scan.

that's what I am taking Forteo for 18 to 24 Mo. then to Prolia. I am 60.

I've recently been diagnosed with Osteopenia and Osteoporosis runs in my family. My mother, age 82, takes a prolia shot 2 times per year. I am 61 and my insurance won't pay for that so my doc recommended Boniva. I took my first dose yesterday and got along pretty well, mild heartburn most of the day, but this morning woke up with back pain and chest pain. I'm breathing fine so I'm not concerned about that but am uncomfortable and wonder if anyone else has experienced this. How long does this last? I've contacted my doc so I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Heard back from my doctor and she doesn't think this back pain is from the Boniva. I'm not satisfied with this answer. She isn't from Mayo by the way.

Hello, I am sorry about your Osteopinia and Osteoperosis . I was diagnosed with Osteopinia and took seven Prolia injections beginning in 2012, two years after it was released. I am happy your mother is able to take Prolia. As for me, it was a horrible drug for me, I suffered and am still suffering from many of the side effects of Prolia. I wish I had researched this drug before ever taking the first shot. I trusted my doctor! As I stated for mr personally, it has been a nightmare. I hope it continues to work for your Mom and good luck to you. Glad you are seeing your doctor and again good luck.
