Has anyone had surgery for a hiatal hernia?
Would love to know if surgery met your needs.
(Am considering surgery).
Thanks.

Thank you. I do know the search option but thought it was a new post or something. I'll get the hang of it! Thank you!
I had surgery 11 years ago and for the first couple years it was great. Unfortunately the hernia is back, bigger than before. But....I still don't have terrible heartburn and reflux like I had before the first surgery.
Good luck,
Steph
Sometimes its a trade off..get rid of 1 problem for another so I always ask myself, will surgery improve my quality of life
I had the Nissen fundoplication (surgery) to repair my hiatal hernia over 20 years ago. It took care of the problem ( the wrap has loosened some of the years).
Post surgery is a bugger. Because of the tight wrap around my throat, I started off eating clear soups, then broth soups, then pudding and mashed potatoes, and eventually more solid foods. Great diet plan. I lost probably 20lbs or so. Anyway, it took months before that wrap loosened up to where I could eat without difficulty. As far as the outcome goes, I'm thankful I had the surgery. If you get it done, make sure you get a doctor that has good success rate with this procedure.
One more thought. Once you have the surgery, say goodbye to burping and being able to vomit( if you need to). The wrap won't let you do either. Although after 20 years, I can burp once in a great while.
