CBD use for short term (9 mo) low dose (.5mg/8 hr) Lorazepam addiction

Posted by bccphotec @bccphotec, Apr 30, 2023

Was admitted to hospital June 2022 for petit-mal seizures. Was put on Phenytoin, Lacosamine, and Keppra. Ended up with "Keppra rage" side effects, for which they gave me Lorazepam. Was removed from the Keppra within a week, but never removed from Lorazepam. Doctors have admitted I need removal, but no progress yet. Would CBD use (with professional supervision) be a possibility under these circumstances?

CBD has been proven to help with seizers. It is not addictive. I get mine from medical cannabis shop.

Most people don’t find CBD helpful when tapering a benzodiazepine. This is according to the huge amount of people using the various benzo forums to help them with their taper.

From what I've read since, the increase of heart rate would not be a positive. However, I do appreciate the replies. Oh, and since my first post, I am in the middle of the classic 10 week taper. There are ups and downs, (especially with the weather here in Arizona) . The main things I have discovered is, "tough out" the initial weeks. And, the more positive motivation you can acquire, however you do it, will help you feel more "capable" as time goes on. My close relatives and friends, some of whom have faced much larger challenges than I, are an incredible, continuous source of support and inspiration. So, keep the faith everybody!

Hi there. I am currently trying to discontinue using .5 lorazapam as well. I am doing it on my own after reading about the tapering schedule. May I ask, how long were you on it? I am going on 1.5 years now and anywhere from .5 to 1 mg. daily. I have been taking .5 mg now for several weeks.
Thank you.

Hello! I was on a "timed" dosage (.5 every 8 hours) for over a year. About 4 months ago, I noticed that I was getting that "missed dose" feeling a couple hours before schedule. My body had become addicted to the timing. So I backed off 1/2 hour, which helped kick that. Before I started the taper, I had backed off during that time, 1 1/2 hours over 3 months. In hindsight, that may have made my body's "adjustment " easier for the taper. Not bragging, but my "intelligent common sense" (thanks to my dear parents,RIP) and friends and relations like myself, and my personal incentive to get off this "junk", (started by a hospital mistake), made me do everything I could to not increase the initial dose. In other words, do absolutely everything you can to not go "backwards". (Sorry, this is not benzo "jabber", I was in radio in the 70's.)

Hate to say it but diet and exercise has done it for me and staying away from people who upset me.

I’ve quit all sugar that is naturally I’m the fruits I eat. The less sugar I ate the better I felt, so I just kept reducing it, I can take half a lorazepam now and then and not be triggered.

I also exercise 2 hours a day. That’s just me though I don’t think one needs 2 hours I just like it.

Good luck!

CBD did little for me. I've been on Benzo's for decades (off and on--am able to take short vacations from them for a couple of weeks up to several months), but even with an excellent diet (for me), lots of exercise: walking a half hour/day, 20 to 40 minutes of tai chi daily, and trying to play tennis again--at least able to give lessons, and having some luck in fighting off insomnia, I seem to be able to maintain: PD seems to remain at a plateau. I did realize that the tremors I'd been having for the past twenty or so years were pretty much related to social phobia. The only PD-related med' I'm currently taking is Benztropine Mesylate (brand name); Cogentin (generic). I take 2 mg at bedtime. It began working within a few weeks. I still wish that the VA or any doctors in Calif would prescribe at the very least 0.5 mg of Alprazolam or Clonazapam. I often get anxious when I know that I'll have to join in an unfamiliar social event. I'm 75 yrs old, not going to OD on the smallest dosage available, and if I didn't need to be around to care for my wife, I likely would have committed suicide when my cognitize decline began several years ago.
