Does anyone have problems with hair loss with post-COVID?

Posted by the2oldies @the2oldies, Jul 4, 2023

Every morning, I have a comb full of hair strands, both short and long. Any advice on slowing hair loss/thinning? Thanks, Mary

My hair started shedding a little during Covid. I had a bad case of Covid starting end of July 2021, was given an anti inflammatory at hospital which really helped. Several months after, 3/4of my hair shed out, but it grew back within a year. Now, the cycle has started again, but I am not noticing the little fringe of new growth as I did before. I use minoxidil, take supplements, and eat a good diet, have thyroid regularly checked. Anyone else experiencing the cycle starting again?

My daughter suggested Rogaine foe women. Thoughts ?

I tried this with hair loss from thyroid disease a few years back. It made my head itch terribly. Also, if you are not careful, it can cause facial hair on a female.....that sounds like fun! Others I have heard have had a good response from it. If there's a side effect....put my name beside it! Blessings.....

I take Biotin (otc) for hair growth about 6 months now. Has not helped but have never had such strong nails 🤦‍♀️

Biotin supplements stopped my hair loss.

I’ve been titled with Long Covid and I have been a hairdresser for 39 years. Here are a few things I have learned-stress can cause hair loss; emotional and physical stress. In regular times, it is normal to loose 100 hairs a day. Most do not notice this shedding due to regular shampooing/styling. I know when I was very ill from covid I did not routinely wash and style and having long covid, I couldn’t stand long enough in the shower to do a great job either + add in not going to salon where they do through job, friction from head resting on pillows way more than normal, change in eating habits, less outdoor time, stress from reality of world wide pandemic, the vaccine debate, watching the news, worrying about loved ones and medical workers, bills, shortages of regular access to household items, etc..Those add up and now our normal 100 a day shedding are hanging around can seem to multiply so when we do brush it we see all that added up normal loss “falling out” = more stress = more hair loss. Plus stress eats up the same vitamins we need for healthy hair, skin and nails. Viruses stress our body. All of it makes creating a jackpot for increased hair loss. I have watched clients hair return to normal after 6-9 months of using anti thinning shampoo(less shampoo but way more rinsing), improving scalp stimulation with manual massage and improved nutrition ..maybe less stress too(?). Just a few thoughts that hopefully may add to helping recovery. Best to all

I had Covid more than two years ago and afterward the texture of my hair changed and started to break off —I looked horrible. I had my iron checked and my numbers came back very low for iron and ferritin. Doctor put my on iron pills and over time the condition of my hair has improved and it is somewhat thicker. I suggest getting blood work done to check your iron and ferritin levels. Minoxidil and Rogaine are life-long efforts: if you stop using them, your hair will begin to fall out again. There are vitamins and other supplements that you can take to improve the condition of your hair—and a good diet matters too.

I started using Nutrafol before I had long Covid. My dermatologist suggested it. After using it for 6 months, the hair loss stopped, and my hair is getting thicker. Supposedly it doesn’t always take that long to begin working. You can make an appointment with one of their doctors who will help you choose which formula will be best for you. This is just another option to be considered.

I have been taking Biotin per my doctor since the beginning of the year and it finally is starting to come back in.

Hi Nhg, Any chance you could send me the name of the anti-thinning shampoo? I just got over a month of Covid and my hair is getting thin. Plus my blood work is really bad when it's always been good. It had to be Covid as I had a hip replacement in Feb and my bloods were great. Anyone else have this?
Thanks

Tons of hair loss from Covid. Came out by the handfuls. When finally able to get to the hairdresser 4 months later, he was shocked and remarked that I'd lost a "TON" of hair. It's super thin and scraggly now. Including biotin in my "Covid Recovery Super Smoothie", and we'll see.....
