Problems with Dehydration: What do you do to keep hydrated?
A two year whipple survivor having problems with enzymes. Ceron. Because of my issues, bloating, bowel dumping, stomach pain. I become dehydrated and have to go to ER and get IV fluids. I feel wonderful, thought. I was dying. My question is does anyone else have dehydration problems and what do you do to keep hydrated? I drink Gatorade daily and only water. Thank you

That is a great idea didn’t even think of jello or pudding. Do you eat sugar free or regular. I try to eat very little sugar. Do you feel you have a restricted diet? Thank you
Since I was 10 years old and realized what diabetes was doing to my Grandfather, I eliminated adding white refined sugar to foods and beverages. I don’t often eat Jello since my complete recovery, but it was likely regular and not artificial sweeteners. As a side note, my college roommates Mother was a big consumer of artificial sweeteners. She cooked, baked and used many packets in her tea and coffee. He and his wife used to tell me the excessive amount she used daily. She developed pancreatic cancer four months after I did in 2012. We were both stage IV. She passed within 4 months. Mine was a germline mutation. She was not found to have a germline mutation.
As far as diet, I became health conscious in high school and began eating low-fat and non-fat meals, cut out all soda. In 1989 when I moved to Switzerland, I gave up eating red meat because of mad cow disease. I do eat lean cuts of red meat about once per month and I do eat desserts but ones without excessive sugar. I essentially stay away from fried, fatty foods and processed meats as well as from the harder to digest vegetables that are comprised of oligosaccharides. If I do eat them, I will take the OTC product Beano as it is the enzyme alpha-d-galactosidase which is the enzyme required to digest oligosaccharides found in certain vegetables.
I am similar, the simpler I eat the better I feel. I could never eat much meat my whole life. I drink only water, never alcohol or soda. I do have a ginger ale when stomach is upset.your post was helpful, I am still struggling with what to eat! Thank you
I have been struggling with keeping my weight up. I've developed some tastes that I didn't have before. I have a strong preference for beef. Perhaps that is what is needed now. Other preferences have changed. Creon changed my life. I had a return of my appetite and enjoyed my food without running to the bathroom as quickly as I could after eating. I am seen at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They have a dietician that specializes in hepatobiliary disorders including pancreatic cancer. It was very helpful to meet with her. I think I will follow up again since I have lost some weight despite eating well.
I found my dietician helpful. I am also on creon. I was told to prioritize my eating -proteins first, aim for higher calorie versions of pretty much everything (no skim milk, use full fat or cream instead, etc) and I have been able to slowly regain some weight. Good luck!
Hello, I am suffering from dehydration as well and have much to discuss as I am dx with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer as well in Feb 2023 out of nowhere and a very healthy extended family living well into old age with good health and do not understand illness like mine and its consequence at such a young age with 3 K-12 school age kids. Much appreciated everyone's tit bits.
My 2 cents on this topic is to also watch your electrolytes especially potassium and if you have heart disease magnesium.
Going on a tangent from the dehydration topic, I am interested in connecting with @stageIVsurviver and others like you if they exist as the prognosis given to me and all stage 4 pancreatic cancer are grim and am excited for you as well as encouraged to learn how you have survived from 2012 to 2023.Congratulations!My responsibility to my 3 young children is not done and I am worried about them and would like to do what I can to be a stage 4 survivor like you as long as I can to support my children
Electrolytes. Drink everything except alcohol
I have also had dehydration problems, now I carry my Yedi cup and try to fill up 4 times. I only drink water but will drink Gatorade. Good luck
No no no to Gatorade! It contains high levels of sugar which promote cancer growth. You need to completely cut out sugar if you want to win this war. I drink Nectar hydration packets (available on Amazon) in my water once per day & I get IV hydration twice per week to stay hydrated. The Nectar packets are the best tasting & do not contain ‘natural flavors’ which is another big no no. Most things processed contain these so called natural flavors which are chemicals put into the food to make them taste natural or better? If you have a poor appetite, I would highly recommend trying Rick Simpson CBD oil. Lack of appetite will also make you dehydrated. The CBD oil helps me a lot with my appetite. It helps me get to sleep & it also helps with nausea & anxiety. Hope this helps somewhat. Best of luck on your journey!
Dairy is just bad news. I’d skip the dairy & opt for oat or cashew milk products instead. It tastes better. Doesn’t leave a nasty dairy film in your mouth & is now the creamer of choice at most coffee houses nationwide due to how much people love it plus no animals are tortured for us humans to consume it.
