Adenocarcinoma - newly diagnosed

Posted by Sandy @pixiedust, Feb 26, 2023

Hello. I am new to this group. Thank you in advance for any guidance and or support you have to offer. I have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the upper right lung. Have had a bronchocoscopy, x-rays, CT and lung biopsy - which determined the diagnosis. I have an appointment this Tuesday for a PET scan to determine staging, and a breathing test will follow. The only symptom I have had is hoarseness in my voice. Otherwise I feel fine. I am simply terrified and still in shock.

Congrads! Cindy what great news.
My Dr has recommended radiation treatment to remove it.
IMRT, not sure if I have name correct. One treatment runs 5 days in length, the other approx 6 weeks. My cancer is .3 cm, right outside wall.
Thanks

Ho2 long was the process from 1st test to final diagnosis? To treatment?

I am recovering from a lower left lung lobectomy to rid me of early stage carcinoma. Pathology tests after surgery tells me I am totally cancer free! No chemo or radiation required, best news ever. However the surgery was not easy. Still trying to get rid of the nerve pain and pulling, hoping it doesn’t last too long!

I know what you mean. I had RUL removed in 2016. The surgery was easy, but recovery not so much. It will get better each week. Hang in and God bless you

Hi @darlenecaywood164, from my initial visit to an urgent care office to having a targeted therapy treatment in hand, it took 2 months. While it didn’t seem like it at the time, the wait was worth it, as that time was used to identify exactly what was driving the cancer. That led me to a treatment that was a good fit for my cancer. I hope your PET scan is scheduled soon, and you get some positive answers.

Hi Juneoake - me too, am almost 6 weeks out from VAT surgery left lung wedge resection upper lobe. I have lots of nerve pain and am now taking Gabapentin for nerve pain. It is hard to estimate how much approval maybe 20%. My left arm pain is much better, but nerve pain especially in front is still there.
I was told it may take 6 months for it to go away.

I’m taking the same type drug…initially 75 mg but it wasn’t doing much. I doubled and started taking 2 instead of 1 and magically I’m not feeling the pulling and getting any more shocks! 150 mg now

That's great. I am taking 300mgx3/day for total 900mg/day and am still having considerable pain. And I have hit the six-week mark which is usually a turning point. My ribs hurt, it hurts to cough and touching my skin hurts and then there are the jabs of pain. Only really improvement is my left arm is much better.

I’m 5 months on 900 mg of Gabapentin & it helps a little, but my nerve pain & the pulling feeling is still there only it’s getting a little better. I’m going to try a pain Dr. & if that doesn’t work acupuncture? Pulmonologist said it could take 6 months to a year. An article I read said maybe up to 2 years. Ugh! I know how you feel. I sometimes sit in the bathroom & cry. (I don’t want my husband to hear me)

I guess I spoke too soon the magic I spoke of is no longer there. Excruciating pulling and burning now, I’ll try going up another 75 mg. I’m a person who never takes and pill and having to take this even just twice a day pisses me off!
