Afternoon! I’m 3 years from hip surgeries. I had first hip replacement July 2016 than 3 weeks later I had a total hip revision due to a dislocation of new hip. I have had pain ever since. Mine is from a nerve thats been either injured or damaged. It’s the femoral cutaneous nerve in the thigh. Causes extreme pain and sensitivity in upper and side of thigh. As well as numbness. I think too the it band is stretched. I was almost 2 inches short before replacement. Dr gave me my length back so I think all the stretching may be the problem. I’m seeing a pain mgmt dr. I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted a year ago. Has not done much for the sensitivity in the thigh. I’m now having issues with battery. Where they placed it is hurting me almost all the time now! This is second battery. My pain dr wanted me to go with different company. That implant was painful....getting in & out of bed hurt my head soo bad. I too have tried cbd oil and haven’t gotten any relief. My pain dr says no dr can help with this nerve as it is hard to trace where it might be compressed....sux! I’m taking gabapentin and on occasion Tramadol. Especially if I’m going to be out of house all day. Depressed cause this was NOT what I expected to happen!! Dealing with this pain on a daily basis is exhausting. I hope you find relief!! Going from pain to another is hard to deal with.

Sounds exactly like my problem
I cannot find a doctor yet that can help. I take gabapentine and tramadol also. I was also taking célebrex and lots of Advil, etc until I had a heart attack, I now also take tylenal.

This sounds like angry, healing nerves to me. Also, you have limped for a long time. Maybe you need some PT to check your gait and give you some specific exercises?

5 months post op and I still have thigh pain off and on. Still able to use treadmill doing 15 minutes at a time no more than 2 mph. I take acetaminophen and use a salonpas lidocaine large patch when it is particularly troublesome. Most days I can get away with just the acetaminophen. I am 75 years old.

Do you think it's maybe our hip flexors. I was walking but I have been sitting the rest of the day.

I just googled hip flexors. There are exercises that can be done to alleviate the pain. I had no idea. I will check that out too. Learning new things every day. Thanks.

Hello,
I know it sounds repetitive but I am finding that time and physical therapy really helps. I too have thigh pain off and on. I am able to use the recumbent bike for the same time you are using the treadmill. My PT told me
not to use a treadmill. The most important thing is to bring the pain level down and the treadmill will exacerbate it according to him. I have found I am doing much better not trying to do a "walk" for 15 min. and use the recumbent bike at the gym. His approach is to forget strengthening, etc. Once you get the pain level down the rest will occur naturally. I am 75 and have had two hip replacements in one hip and I have an infection there which necessitates an oral antibiotic daily for eternity. I do very minimal exercises at PT
meaning it seems like I am doing nothing, but I am able to see it is actually accomplishing a lot. SLOWLY.
Please dont assume you know what you can do if you have access to a top notch PTherapist. Overdoing it is
so easy to do and really sets me back a few days. So I am learning to discipline myself to do what I know works eventually and not try to go from A to D. Be patient with yourself and get a good physical therapist.
Good luck.

Hello!
Yes, I had sharp pains in my thighs for at least anywhere from the time of surgery up into about a year a year and a half. It wasn't all the time it would come and go but that's something that I think happens because your nerves are trying to start to wake up. I'm two and a half years out from having both hips replaced and I don't get those pains at all anymore.

I am also 75 and 7 months post op total right hip replacement. Pain continues off and on, primarily with taking walks (1-4 miles depending on the degree of pain) 3-4 days/week at about 25 minutes/mile. I take ibuprofen or Tylenol primarily at night. It’s just nice to know I’m not alone. Others have done so much better and I really miss taking big hikes,

I had a physical therapist and after doing almost the same exact exercises after 7 sessions I decided to quit and do them at home. I do lots and lots of research and walking has been touted as the best thing you can do for hip replacement therapy. If I hadn't read it over and over and over again I would not be doing it. My surgeon approved my going on the treadmill as long as I did not overdo it. My surgeon knows what he's talking about. I listen to him not the physical therapist.
