Hi @deeptomar92 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. For your safety I asked the moderating team to remove your personal information that you provided with your shared files.

Members in the forum aren’t medical professionals so we can’t diagnosis or offer treatments. However, we can use our experiences to help each other. Your doctor is the only person who can officially interpret your test results.

That being said, I’ve had hundreds of blood tests in the past 4 years with my blood cancer journey. It doesn’t make me an authority but I have a basic understanding of what’s normal and what numbers might point to a potential concern.
From my experience, I don’t see anything that raised my eyebrows with your tests. Your kidney numbers are all good and within the parameters of the medical tests. Same with the liver numbers. I think you doctor will want to discuss your cholesterol and triglycerides with you to get those numbers down. That might be just a matter of diet with reducing saturated fats and sugars.

Your blood results for red/white blood cells and platelets are generally fine with a couple fluctuations over the norm. That’s not abnormal to have some numbers with minor fluctuations around the ‘normal’ limits of lab values. Again, from my experince with AML, if there is anything seriously amiss, the numbers will be very skewed and far from normal.
Personally, if I had your blood numbers, I’d sleep very well at night. ☺️

Were you having any symptoms that led you to having the bloodwork done or was this a routine physical?

Hi @Lori, Volunteer Mentor, First of all, wish you good luck with your health. Looks like you have already mentioned that our doctor will be the best person to see the reports and tells if the numbers are good or bad. However, I see you're at least trying to look at the numbers based on your experience, so thought of utilizing this opportunity with you.

Age 30 Years, with no Blood Pressure or Diabetes I have recently had blood work, and looks like my creatine is 1.16, EGFR 87, Predicted 24 HR Protein, U 241 (normal reference range by Mayo is < g/24hr), Albumin, S is 4.9 g/dl.

For the past 6 years, my creatine is above 1 and my EGFR is below 90 which is getting fluctuates from 86 to 89. I am having severe lower back pain for one week & When I sit in a chair or lean my back is hurting a little bit and my abdominal tingles. and I do have an appointment in the next 10 days at Mayo Rochester. Do I have to wait for an upcoming appointment or Is this something that I have to prioritize to go to ER? I know this is a wrong question, however, wanted to check if this is something to worry about my kidneys.

I would really appreciate it.

Hi @sureshkurapati88, Welcome to Mayo Connect. I’m really hesitant to give opinions on blood tests. Like I mentioned above, I’m not a medical professional and can’t interpret test results or diagnose. From my experience though I can look at numbers and see where they fall on the normal scales.
Keeping in mind numbers don’t always tell the entire picture by themselves. There are a lot of factors and more tests needed in order to confirm a diagnosis.
At a glance, your albumin and GFR are in the normal ranges. GFR, basically anything over 60 is normal. Of course higher, like your numbers at 86-89, is great. My doctors were ecstatic when I was at 51 after having dropped to 17-21. Now I’m back to above 60 and I did an happy dance. ☺️
Albumin normal ranges are 3.5 to 5.5 so your result at 4.9 is almost right in the middle.

Your creatine is a littler higher than the upper normal range and I’m not sure about the predictive 24 hour protein. It looks like the upper range for that would be 150. If that’s the case then your result of 241 is elevated. Sometimes it can be an indication of kidney disease but those elevated numbers can also be from a UTI.
You mentioned you have back pain. From my experience anytime I had a UTI the backache was relentless. It didn’t matter what my sitting position was. Are you having any other symptoms such as burning and frequent urges to urninate?
If you feel you have a urinary tract infection you could just check in with your primary care doctor or go to an urgent care center for a urine test just to rule that out.

Congratulations for getting an appt at Mayo-Rochester. That’s pretty much my home away from home. You’ve had a lot of tests run already. Are you being seen there for kidney issues?

Hi @ @loribmt, thanks for the quick response! I really appreciate! Sure I won’t rely on your feedback I will consider as a good resource!

Yes I’m coming to Rochester to have kidney diagnosis. Most of the blood work and urine tests were completed, however I will ask my provider if they can do some extra tests to rule out the kidney/back pain. Does Mayo Clinic Jacksonville has any urgent care service ? I know they offer emergency.

I also have very very little minute burning sensation from last two days. I will get UTI test. Once again thanks!

If you’re not going to Rochester for 10 days, I’d suggest having a UTI test at a local health center or urgent care. You don’t want that to proliferate and get nasty.

When you’re at Mayo and meeting with your specialist. Often they will have further tests run after your initial consultation. Things can happen pretty quickly there with scheduling.
Is this your first time in Rochester? Do you have your portal set up? Lodging taken care of? Anything I can help you with?

Hi ☺️, I’m inspired to hear that once your GFR # was low (like mine), but is now up & over 60!! What did you do to raise your number—if you don’t mind me asking?
Thank you,

Hi @mshope, my acute kidney failure was a side effect of a medication I was taking after a bone marrow transplant. I was in the process of switching from an IV med to a pill form. It metabolized differently than the IV, causing another medication I was taking to not process as quickly. That built up in my system and became toxic.
Quick action from my transplant team reversed the problem before any permanent damage happened. For the next 3 years the GFR rarely got past 51. But my doctors were happy with that. Kidneys were still functioning fine.
During that time I was still on a medication which has a side effect of restricting blood flow through the kidneys. So that’s why it hovered at 51. Once off that, it zoomed to 57 where it held for the past year. It was a shock to see it above 60 yesterday. So I wish I could say I had a hand in any of this but I think it’s because of being off all medications.

Since October though, I have been restricting my intake of saturated fats to no more than 5 gms daily. And I also limit my sugar intake, avoid any processed foods and no junk food. I’ve dropped 10 pounds and my fasting glucose dropped 12 points! So I don’t know if that’s the final push for making my kidneys happy? But for the first time in 4 years, every blood test number yesterday was perfect! I literally did a happy dance around the kitchen after checking the portal. ☺️

I found this article a while back on Healthline.com about raising GFR. Maybe you’ll find it helpful as well. Here’s an excerpt from the article on how to Raise GFR.
“-Controlling blood pressure. You can manage high blood pressure through exercise, diet, stress reduction, and limiting alcohol, among other lifestyle choices.
-Making sure you’re not deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiencyTrusted Source is very common, and many people aren’t aware that they’re deficient. If you think you have a deficiency, talk with your doctor and get your blood levels tested. To increase your vitamin D levels, you can spend more time in the sun or add more vitamin D-rich foods to your diet.
-Resolving other metabolic conditions. Metabolic disorders are complex and can present in many forms. Work with your doctor to find a treatment plan that addresses the root cause.”

Thank you so much for sharing all this good information with me. I am experiencing low GFR numbers and will definitely follow up on this info.

Wishing you continued success! Again, thank you.
