Hi @Lori, Volunteer Mentor, First of all, wish you good luck with your health. Looks like you have already mentioned that our doctor will be the best person to see the reports and tells if the numbers are good or bad. However, I see you're at least trying to look at the numbers based on your experience, so thought of utilizing this opportunity with you.

Age 30 Years, with no Blood Pressure or Diabetes I have recently had blood work, and looks like my creatine is 1.16, EGFR 87, Predicted 24 HR Protein, U 241 (normal reference range by Mayo is < g/24hr), Albumin, S is 4.9 g/dl.

For the past 6 years, my creatine is above 1 and my EGFR is below 90 which is getting fluctuates from 86 to 89. I am having severe lower back pain for one week & When I sit in a chair or lean my back is hurting a little bit and my abdominal tingles. and I do have an appointment in the next 10 days at Mayo Rochester. Do I have to wait for an upcoming appointment or Is this something that I have to prioritize to go to ER? I know this is a wrong question, however, wanted to check if this is something to worry about my kidneys.

I would really appreciate it.

Hi @sureshkurapati88, Welcome to Mayo Connect. I’m really hesitant to give opinions on blood tests. Like I mentioned above, I’m not a medical professional and can’t interpret test results or diagnose. From my experience though I can look at numbers and see where they fall on the normal scales.
Keeping in mind numbers don’t always tell the entire picture by themselves. There are a lot of factors and more tests needed in order to confirm a diagnosis.
At a glance, your albumin and GFR are in the normal ranges. GFR, basically anything over 60 is normal. Of course higher, like your numbers at 86-89, is great. My doctors were ecstatic when I was at 51 after having dropped to 17-21. Now I’m back to above 60 and I did an happy dance. ☺️
Albumin normal ranges are 3.5 to 5.5 so your result at 4.9 is almost right in the middle.

Your creatine is a littler higher than the upper normal range and I’m not sure about the predictive 24 hour protein. It looks like the upper range for that would be 150. If that’s the case then your result of 241 is elevated. Sometimes it can be an indication of kidney disease but those elevated numbers can also be from a UTI.
You mentioned you have back pain. From my experience anytime I had a UTI the backache was relentless. It didn’t matter what my sitting position was. Are you having any other symptoms such as burning and frequent urges to urninate?
If you feel you have a urinary tract infection you could just check in with your primary care doctor or go to an urgent care center for a urine test just to rule that out.

Congratulations for getting an appt at Mayo-Rochester. That’s pretty much my home away from home. You’ve had a lot of tests run already. Are you being seen there for kidney issues?
