3-year survival rate of those who have had esophagectomies at Mayo

My wife has cancer of esophagus. For past 3 years IU Med Center has been lasered out cancer; however, Barrett's high-grade dysplasia keeps coming back. Trying to decide whether or not to switch to Mayo. I hate to seem morbid, but does anyone know what the 3-year mortality rate is for Mayo? I have heard a lot of good about Mayo

Congratulations on your progress - I know it is a difficult path.
She cannot have radiation due to previous chemo/radiation treatment in 2011
Thursday she is having ultrasound on the tumor and limph area as well as pulmanary exploration due to lung cancer in the late 90's which was removed with surgery, no chemo or radiation
Once these procedures are complete we will be meeting with local Boise oncologist as well as her previous oncologist in CA at Stanford.
We don't think it has spread to limphs or other areas except her tonsil area.
Trying to stay hopeful and stories like yours are helpful. Thank you for sharing

I also have phone call scheduled with Mayo Phoenix this Friday. I am encouraged after hearing all the positive comments about treatment at Mayo

This is my first post. My 77 year old mother was just diagniosed with esphogus cancer as well as in her tonsil area - not confirmed if related yet.
She had tonsil cancer on left side in 2011 but this seems to be a different type.
However, radiation is not an option since she had previously. We live in Idaho and are seeing her old oncologist at Stanford in two weeks, if not sooner.
If the Proton Beam a form of radiation? Sounds like it but want to confirm.
Appreciate all the information and feeling hopeful after reading so many posts.

The proton system at Mayo is advanced radiation. The unit cost to purchase and install this system the way Mayo has done is the best and most costly. Unfortunately, there are radiation equipment manufacturers that claim their system is Proton but the operation of such equipment is nowhere near the efficiency that a patient would experience by going to Mayo. Pinpoint accuracy is what Mayo's equipment can achieve.

The proton system at Mayo is advanced radiation. The unit cost to purchase and install this system the way Mayo has done is the best and most costly. I was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer in July 2022. I went to Mayo for proton radiation and chemo (I am not a candidate for surgery) I recently had a biopsy and there is no evidence of cancer! Mayo Clinic is the best! They also helped me when I was diagnosed with AML leukemia.

I can't answer that and getting the answer would be best coming from the physicians at Mayo.

My husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 esophageal cancer in October 2021, had chemo and proton radiation treatments through January 2022 and surgery in early March 2022. It was a long road but he is doing well now, with the biggest adaptation is the new norm when it comes eating yet even that gets easier with each passing day. Our experience with the Mayo doctors, nurses, support staff, and overall operations was top notch. Our experience through a challenging situation was made more tolerable and we believe you will be satisfied.

I have had barrets for at least 6 years. 6 months ago I started having discomfort swallowing. Now when I burp, or hickup I get Big pain in my throat. It feels lie a muscle straining real hard. I made an appointment with my Dr. @ Borland-Groover who i have been seeing for over a decade. I feel worried, not happy. I almost dont want to go. I have already blew off one appointment, scared I guess

I would like to know too, if FL has Proton Bean Therapy. My husband is switching to Mayo Jax this Fev 2nd, with Dr. Starr. We can't wait for the appointment, since we don't feel comfortable with the treatment he is receiving at Kaiser Permanent.
For us it means that we have to move from West coast to East coast, but he will be treated with cutting edge technology.
