Could a good night's rest be a purchase away? Your experience

Could a better night's rest truly be a purchase away?

The writers at Mayo Clinic Press are researching different products that promise to help you sleep better. They'd like to hear your experiences.

Have you tried products like:
- Weighted blankets
- Scented sleep sprays
- Cooling pajamas
- At-home sleep tests (over the counter, not with a sleep specialist)
- Alarm clocks that mimic the sun
- Sleep cereal or other foods
- Sound machines

What worked for you? What now sits in your closet?

Hi. I have tried a few from your list, here's my thoughts.
I have found both my weighted blanket (8lbs) and sound machine (Thunder storms) help me to sleep better. We also purchased a better quality mattress and better pillows. I also find that a banana in the evening is helpful due to the "tryptophan" in it.
I did not find the "relaxing sprays" to help at all, although pleasant.
I do also find that listening to a guided meditation podcast (free thru a popular music app) helps me fall asleep and you can make your phone turn off by an alarm, so you don't have to worry about turning it off.

....I havent tried a lot - but have not slept thru night for about 3 yrs... tinnitus and hyperacusis, as well as washroom needs; but I do listen to favourites on you tube, voice with no background music as the loudness of music varies: i have listened to some so often think I know all she is going to say... but she says things like "you are going to be ok" - or "maybe today was bad but try and forget about it_" .... counting backwards from 20 etc... I often fall back asleep in middle of the recording. I do pay you tube about 14 Cdn. dollars a month so no ads because they can ruin the whole relaxation effort! Good luck with Survey! J. p.s. No rain thunder or waves help me but I know help some people.

Best thing I’ve purchased is a table clock that goes completely dark. I can not sleep with light. Those clocks with the neon, giant, numbers drive me crazy.

Also, not looking at the time at night is on the list for good sleep hygiene.

What has helped me considerably the past six months is a small device that helps relieve my nasal congestion and rhinitis. Previously I was doing twice daily nasal rinse, one in the morning and one at night. SinuSonic has made it much easier and more pleasant than the nasal rinses. For me, better breathing equals better sleep at night.

Hi @johnbishop , I see that there is some research left to finish on this device, but it sure seems hopeful. What the heck, I think I'll buy one for my wife.

It's great having an effective mentor like you.

Thanks Tim! I was a little skeptical myself until I found this helpful article.

I am having good results with Spring Valley adult gummy 10mg Melatonin. I chew 2 gummy’s about 20 minutes and fall asleep. Prior to this I would be lucky to get 3 hours sleep a night. I hope this helps you too to sleep well. 🙂
