Mycobacterial Culture Results
I received two entries for the below test on May 18, 2023. Both are M Abscessus, one with 3 colonies, and one with 1+ — see below.
What does this mean? Maybe 2 subspecies of Abscessus, one with 3 colonies, and one with 1+.
Appreciate any insight.

Your pulmonologist or ID doc should be contacting you to go over these results. It means there was Mycobacteria Abscessus when your culture was grown out.
If you do not here from them today, I would call and ask what the next step will be.

1 ReactionI cultured mac in 2023 but wasn't treated, then in 2025 Flu A and covud and admitted to hospital. All cultures showed mycobacterium abscessus, my doctors were going to treat but then changed their minds. Im on immunoglobulin and have atelaxis which has progressed over last 3 years to lobes and lingua on ct but no cavities. I've has staph aureus and morexella treated repeatedly over past year but as feeling dreadful asked ID doc to do AFB in may 26, all 3 were smear positive. Doctors are still saying that I should not get treatment and they haven't done susceptibility testing. I've chronic mucotaneous candida which is multi drug resistant so I live with it. My self care lung clearance is impeccable but im exhausted. Has anyone else had this experience of doctors saying no to treatment and that sure if we do you will still have it?
