Severe bronchitis, does it negatively affect aneurysms?

Posted by csly @csly, May 16, 2023

Eight days ago my 71 year old husband came down with the worst case of bronchitis he has ever had. Just 6 months ago a scan showed a 4.2 ascending aortic aneurysm. He is due for an echo on June 1. But my question is, will the severe coughing, cause issues with the aneurysm? Just walking from room to room his oxygen levels drop to 77-82. We have oxygen tanks so when he gets to his recliner, he turns on the oxygen. His doctor finally ordered a cough med which was finally compounded this morning, so we will have it delivered this evening. But the dr ignored our questions. Any one with ideas?

I had bronchitis in January and the cough lasted about 6 weeks. I had my yearly echo in April and my aneurysm was unchanged.

I am interested in this as well. I was sick in Dec with a lingering cough through April, and intermittent now. In April the second CT (for pneumonia) scan indicates an increase in size of mine to 44. It might be the modality of imaging used. I get it echoed in June, as the echo was the original modality used to determine my baseline a few years ago. I am an active 66 yr old 5 ft 3 female. Good luck with your husband Csly. It is hard to have a loved one suffering. Take care of yourself as well. He needs you!

I had the same issue and with spring sneezing. Supposedly it isn't supposed to change it - but how does one know. Has he been checked for sleep apnea. That might be a good thing to check if he has not (it could aid breathing).
Best wishes.

Yes my hubby has sleep apnea. Been on a CPAP for over 25 years. Just had another sleep study 2 months ago and they confirmed the need for night time oxygen and the CPAP machine.
