Heart Rhythm Conditions – Welcome to the group

Welcome to the Heart Rhythm Conditions group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
Did you know that the average heart beats 100,000 times a day? Millions of people live with heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) which occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate heartbeats don't work properly. Let's connect with each other; we can share stories and learn about coping with the challenges, and living well with abnormal heart rhythms. I invite you to follow the group. I'm Kanaaz (@kanaazpereira), and I'm the moderator of this group. When you post to this group, chances are you'll also be greeted by volunteer patient Mentors and fellow members. Learn more about Moderators and Mentors on Connect.

Let's chat. Why not start by introducing yourself?

@deborah67

Hi I went to my nurse practitioner, and she forgot to sent a request to see the cardio dr. So hopefully she will do that.

Hi @deborah67 I just wanted to check in with you to see how you’re feeling. Were you able to meet with a cardiologist?

Hi thanks for thinking about me. No appointment yet. It takes such a long time to see a specialist in Canada.

Hi, I’ve had afib for over 10 years.
Had a stroke 10 yrs ago. The afib of course got worse. I’ve taken every heart medication known to man. They worked for a while, My doctor in Mn. then did 3 ablation. They each also worked for a while.
We moved to Mo. found a heat doctor that had a lot to do with Mayo Clinic, that’s why I chose him. He did one ablation, worked for a while, along with new meds. I’ve been in afib so strong, I think my hearts going to beat itself to death. Now my doctor want to put a EP Leadless pacemaker
in and do a ablation on the AV Node.
Which will cut off the electricity all together. I will still have afib, but won’t feel it. So consequently the pacemaker will be running my heart.
If the pacemaker goes out I won’t have a heart beat and die. He said this procedure is 95% effective.
It’s coming up soon and I’m getting a bit nervous. Thought I’d ask some questions from outsiders about this procedure.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Vicky

Hi there.... as a child always had heart palpatations. Had my third dose of covid jab at age 51 ended up with 17,000 ectopic heart bangs/thuds a day. Medication isn't working so m heart surgeon isn't all that happy.
will see him towards the end of this year. Have other people noticed that if you have dessert it is a fire cracker for it. I mean i used to have this maybe once every few months for the last few years ... 52 now and a little nervous to go to my next heart apt. I am starting to wonder if it has had an effect on losing most of my hair as well bringing on alopecia. all grown back now , starting to lose it again...... just makes you wonder the ripple effect. I never liked the taste of coffee but i do have half a satchet of Aldi Mocha of a morning as this amount doesn't seem to affect my heart compared to a full satchet. Take Care everyone

Thank you for this site. Appreciate others info. Here is my problem... Have had an irregular heartbeat since pulled out of girls basketball in college. Pvc, svt... Nothing more. Worked 40 years as an RN. Had children. No probs till age 70. Increased palpitations, tachycardia, breathless... Fatigue.
Words you don't want to hear the doctor say during the first 3 minutes of a stress test ..." Shut it down, that's AFib"
A zyo patch turned up several more short episodes. Happy to be put on Eliquis...well except for the high price! My problem is I have severe osteoarthritis, and have lived on Aleve for 20 years... Manages the pain in back and knees fine. Now due to eliquis, I cannot take nsaids. Tylenol does nothing... I feel stuck...help.

Hi I'm Yvonne and am 58. I had aspiration pneumonia with sepsis last summer and still finding 02 sats are all over. But the past few months, I've noticed that where my resting heart rate used to be 75 or 80, is now around 50.
I also noticed when my heart rate is low, my 02 sats are a good 98.
When my heart rate is having a normal day at 70 or 80 my 02 dips to 92.
My gp finally had me set up with a halter monitor yesterday. What causes a heart rate to fall to 50 for a few days, back to normal a few days and back down?
I've had an echo done and they said it was perfect. Anyone? The heart thing is new to me.

Hair lose can be a side effect of some anti-arrhythmia drugs. When I was first diagnosed with a-fib, I was given several different drugs trying to find one that would control it. I finally opted for for an ablation but before the ablation one of the drugs that I took was Amiodarone. I had taken it for a short time only to find my hair falling out. Fortunately when I told my cardiac electrophysiologist, he took me off the drug immediately and my hair stopped falling out. My sister had a friend who lost all his hair from taking Amiodarone. You might check the side effects of the medications you and ask your doctor about it.
