I have had recent anger that is triggered by what or how people say.
I’m GAD , general anxiety and a variety of other mental issues. Recently, even though I’m retired , I have had anger bouts with both Men and Women that say something that triggers my anger. I feel threatened and extremely bothered by their words or how they have spoken. I take propranolol daily to help and double up on it if I’m blowing up. In the past, over 10 years ago, I suffered from panic attacks and I’m thinking that maybe they’re back.

Hello @stsopoci
I am not a professional but I can speak from my experience. I recently started meditation and it really helped me to stabalize my life. You should try it. I use an app called medito that guides me through the sessions and it's amazing. And when you have a conversation with someone just focus on the positive part and deliberatly ignore what can bother you. You're not doing it for other but for your own well being.
Take care
Thanks. You are right about the meds. I have been on lexipro for over 12 years with propranolol. The meds need to be changed and I have an appointment in June to check out the situation. I wonder if others find meds work for awhile and then they seem to stop working and you have to change meds?
@stsopoci
I was talking about meditation not medication. You know take a moment for yourself and do some breathing exercises.
@stsopoci Bonehead, sometimes our medications do indeed seem to change the way they act for us. Sometimes we have several we take, or supplements, and we change one thing but it affects something else we also take. I have had that happen! and sometimes our bodies get used to a particular medication and it is not as effective anymore.
Do you think this might be the case?

I started taking more propranolol along with my lexapro and maybe this is stopping the lexapro from working. I’m usually a quiet person in meetings and I’m getting upset about things I’ve never been upset before. But the worse part is my mouth says very angry words that I later wish I didn’t.
Oh.. you’re right. I do take yoga and exercise weekly. The calm only comes when i play or perform with a band or pit orchestra. I love playing musicals.
@stsopoci Yeah, I can relate to the "little to no filter" aspect of reactions! It can come out in words or actions. A deep breath, count to 10 [or 20!], step back literally or figuratively when possible have all worked at times for me. And honestly, sometimes there is a sudden trigger that pops up, one I was not expecting. My mind goes into the old fight-or-flight mode and there is no stopping it.
Be gentle on yourself. You'll figure it out.

I checked the 2 meds you mentioned and there is no contraindication that they cannot be taken together. But maybe you need a dose adjustment and/or maybe you need some therapist time with your meds? Since you just retired what is your plan B to keep your mind and body active in this new phase of your life?
