Is this RLS (restless leg syndrome)?
I have been a member of Mayo Connect in other groups too. I am trying to find out if the symptoms I have in my muscles is connected to anything I already have been diagnosed with.
Also, would it be a Rheumatologist or Orthopedic Dr. That I need for this? I asked the Rheumo and they said it's nothing that they handle. But I would think they would because it feels like muscles.
At night while relaxing, my legs get restless, want to tense up, like on rubber bands. Then my right arm, just my forearm starts to feel the same. Then it makes me put my hand into a "claw" as it intensifies.
Any clues anyone?

I'm sorry for the confusion. Yes, you are right, BIG DIFFERENCE!
It is 2000 IUs. And if you find that works in reducing the RLS/PILM, but doesn't eliminate it, I believe you can take more without harm. I started out with 3000 IUs which worked great so reduced to 2500 IUs and then to 2000 IUs. I didn't try less than that.
I wish you good luck. I hope this works for you and if it doesn't, you may wish to talk to your doc about a script for Gabapentin which I use when I need to take either benedryl or ambien, both of which give me PILM.
Oh yes!! Very same symptoms I have experienced for about 10-13 years. It’s Restless Leg Syndrome. After going through many options, none of which worked for me, my doctor put me on pramipexole , 1 mg tablets. I take 2 1hour before bed. I sleep through the night now!!!
I have restless legs and my neurologist put me on Mirapex. I have to take .25 mg 3 x daily. I have other conditions as well so I have to take quite a lot of medication and have morning, mid-day and evening pill keepers. My “restless legs” will spread to my arms as well if for some reason medication is missed. I wasn’t allowed to take it before a surgery which kept getting pushed back for an available OR. It began to act up and I was twitching and moving all around uncontrollably before they actually got me back there for the procedure. My nurse thought I was having a reaction to something she gave me and I explained it was restless leg syndrome but spreads to whole body syndrome w/o my meds.
@lemartin417 I would also have a terrible time if I couldn’t take my medicine for RLS! Did the surgeon actually tell you not to take it? Or was it just a generalized rule?
I’d love to know what you learn. Will you stay in touch?
Yes, it was the anesthesiologist who told me not to take it. They don’t want much onboard before sedation. Next time I’ll explain what happened and make sure I’m first on the OR schedule.
Yes, I would like to stay in touch. I’m getting ready to have 2 mri’s. I’m hoping that I don’t have an episode while in that “tube”. I really need these tests so I’m hoping for the best outcome!
I wouldn’t wish this stuff …..rLS….on my worst enemy !!
I don’t think they’ll restrict your medications for an mri. I’ve had several and have never been asked to refrain from taking my usual medications. Best of luck to you.
@catlove30 I always take my RLS meds before an MRI. Wouldn’t survive without!
Have you had MRI’s before?
Thank you so much!!!
