I’m curious about the people in the SAD control group. Do you know if they have always eaten that way or if this will be a new way of eating for them. I am assuming everyone has been assessed medically for any underlying conditions.

I remember a documentary on a young healthy man who decided to eat fast food for a month and super sized everything for his 3 meals a day. He barely made it to the end and the doctors said it would take years for some of the damage that was done to his organs to reverse to his prior state…including his vision, if they did. And no, there were no amount of vitamins he could take to speed things along.

I can’t possibly know any of that as I am only a pawn in a bigger chess game.

I am trying to research information about a possible side effect of Areds2 causing recurrent canker sores. Initially, I was taking 2 capsules as directed on the package: One in the morning, one in the evening / both with food. I noticed after about 2 weeks of following this direction that I had symptoms of overall 'uneasiness'. Difficult to describe, not quite nausea but general feeling of being unwell. As well, I started getting canker sores every 2 to 3 weeks. Also, the canker sores became more painful and severe as time went on requiring me to alternate ibuprofen and tylenol to ease the discomfort. I have started to take one Areds a day and note some improvement, but even then canker sores about 1 x a month. I cannot find any information to this issue and just wonder if anyone else on this particular site has had the same symptom.

Curious, why did you stop and did you do any alternative 'therapy' that seems to be successful ?

I stopped because I found out that I should not have been taking them in the first place. I have normal pressure glaucoma. Areds doesn't help with that.

Do you take it with food? Everyone's different in terms of how they react toANY supplement or medication. On the AREDS bottle, there's a product website you can check into & a phone number you can call. I've found either can be helpful on some questions.

Yes, I do take it with food...actually a meal seems to work best to avoid nausea and that overall general feeling of being unwell. I appreciate your suggestion to contact the product website/phone contact. Thank you.

I was told to take Areds by my optometrist. I am also on Xeralto for Afib. About 3 weeks in I had significant blood in my urine for 36 hours. Stopped the Areds right away. I am seeing my family doc and he is running some tests to rule out any issues. I think it was the Areds. Are there any alternatives to Areds.

My doctor found mottling in my right eye and suggested I start taking Ocuvite or AREDS2. Are there any benefits of one over the other. Also, I’ve had my left kidney removed due to cancer, so my kidney function is limited, but labs are good. Is there any reason to not take AREDS due to limited kidney function? Ive seen one reference to AREDS2 and limited kidney function, but didn’t explain why. Thank you.
