Implantable cardiac loop recorder: How do you know it's working?

Posted by waitngsus @waitngsus, Apr 25, 2023

Today April 25, 2023 feels like the worst day in my life. I just arrived home from my heart dr appointment. I have had a loopmetric device put in in May, 2022. I have been checking my heart rate constantly because with every activity I do I feel dizzy and weak. I check my heart rate with finger heart monitor as well as my watch both read the same maybe sometimes reading 1 or 2 beats different. I also check my blood pressure and my heart rate consécutive with my watch and finger monitor. When I visit my daughter and I'm not feeling well I also check my heart rate and its h8gh. Yet today I go see my cardiologist and he swears that my heart is fine because my loop recorder says its fine. Also said that every cardiologist that I have seen is right and that my watch and all devices such as finger monitors are not right. I have never felt like an idiot in all my life. So I sit here crying because I can't do any activities without getting dizzy and my heart rate going high. Yet I can't prove my point of the hell I'm going through because of this loopmetric device. So I asked the Dr. Is it possible that the device is wrong? He said everything appears working accurate but yet didn't even look to see how can we test it. I've seen 5 cardiologist trying to get second opinion and they keep saying nothing is wrong but yet been hospitalized 2 times with high heart rate which that's the reason they put this loopmetric device in. Please I need direction.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Are you talking about an insertable cardiac monitoring device? My EP just asked me if I want to have one implanted. So, you're having obvious heart rhythm issues but they don't show up on the loop monitor? (I just want to be sure I understand your question?)

@earlysu, here is more information from Mayo Clinic about implantable heart monitors.

@waitngsus, first of all, I'm very sorry that you were left feeling like an idiot. That is not the way that a patient-doctor partnership should work. You're concerned because the unsettling symptoms you're experiencing are real, but your doctor is not seeing them.

May I ask:
- are the abnormal readings showing in the readings that your doctors see?
- do your finger monitor and/or watch monitor show different readings than the implanted ECG readings that your doctor has?
- did your doctor explain why you may be feeling these symptoms if they are not related to heart issues and what you can do about them?

I had a loop recorder that didn’t catch my complete heart block and landed me in the ER and pacemaker. I caught it on my Kardia and knew something was terribly wrong.

I had a loop and ablaision done 3.5 yrs ago. Since then I passed out 5 more times, and when I call they tell me no event was recorded. I was in Florida for 2 months and had stress test, echo and all cardiac tests done before I left and everything was good. 4 days later while in Florida I passed out and was taken by ambulance to the hospital and stayed 1 day and they did all the tests, which showed nothing. The cardiologist came in the morning and I told him I had a loop but the battery was dead. He actually said that the device is just a money grabber and throw it away !! Followed up with another cardiologist while in Florida and he told me to get the loop replaced. Back in NY now and followed up with my cardiologist and wants electrical tests done and replace loop. Also told him and several other doctors that my BP would spike to 180/110 for a period of time and then days later drop to 102/78 while on same BP pills. This has been going on for years and still no answers.. Again the loop never picked up any episodes. Why do I even have this device !!!!
