I didn't have UC, but developed gastritis which has become chronic, and during the first 3 months of my LC, had mesenteric panniculitis. I wish you the best on your journey. I am almost a year out and am much better, but still have autoimmune issues if exposed to viruses and even simple procedures such as Botox injections.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate any help. What is Mesenteric pannicilitis? Hope you are doing better with each new day. Medications do not work and I think they have made me worse. Best wishes on your recovery and get well soon.
Sincerely,
Kitty2

I got sick with covid in July 2022. It didn't seem to be a very severe case as I only had a fever, sore throat, and vomiting for 3 to 4 days. The fatigue lasted a couple of months though. Fast forward another month and, in October, I started having stomach issues. Constipation, nausea, and vomiting come on 3 or 4 times a week. I am still experiencing this. I have lost 30 pounds in the past 4 months. My primary care doctor has done blood work up. He sent me to a GI doctor who did an EGD and colonoscopy. Everything has been normal. I was put on Omeprazole for 8 weeks and now the doctor is trying Nortyptiline because he thinks it could be abdominal migraines. I know my doctors are trying but not much is known about long covid...These symptoms all started after I had covid...does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

My 70 year old brother had a partial obstruction of his colon and had never had any colon issue’s previously. The only thing the doctor can attribute it to is COVID. He was not vaccinated and was reasonably sick with COVID 6 months prior to the obstruction. Otherwise he is exceptionally healthy.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 3 months after having Covid. My symptoms started while I was still isolating for Covid. I am convinced Covid caused it. My main symptoms are blood in my stool and occasional diarrhea. I have been on Lialda since my diagnosis. I can't have dairy, processed sugars (think candy/sweets) or certain spices. Certain fruits and veges make it worse as well. I also take a probiotic and a multivitamin. I do drink two glasses of almond milk everyday as I have read vitamin D is important in immune response and good gut bacteria maintenence. I am also convinced my gut bacteria are out of whack. My main goal is try to maintain/increase the good bacteria in my gut by diet and probiotics and minimize the bad bacteria in my gut by eliminating things from my diet that they feed on like sugar. I have good days and not so good days like everyone else.

Hi,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am so convinced Covid is the culprit of whats going on. Convincing the GI doctors is the problem. I had a telephone consult with a GI doctor in New York , she was a firm believer that Covid kicked the immune system in bringing on the colitis. I had a Colonoscopy in October and had so much inflammation the doc could not even get all the polyps out. He had to leave some there. I just found out one was pre-cancerous.Are you having any problems with the Lialda..I was on it also, I had problems with it, and i believe that I am sensitive to anything with mesalamine in it. I have been dealing with this for almost 17 months now. I seem to have a problem with physical exercise makes my symptoms so much worse, I took Budesonide from September until about a month ago..so many side effects, I had to get off of it. My job is very physical and I really get very ill every day after work like clockwork, the same time. No dairy, fresh vegtables, friuts. My diet is pretty limited. Please stay in touch, and I hope you are feeling better. Sincerely, Kitty2

When I started with Lialda it did not go well. After a week of taking 2.4 grams daily, I felt horrible. No energy, chills! I thought I had Covid again or maybe the flu. I got tested for both but both tests were negative. I took myself off of Lialda and almost immediately my flu-like symptoms were gone. I asked my GI doctor about the side effects of Lialda but he told me that it was a well tolerated drug. I stayed off of it for about 10 days and then my GI issues got bad so I decided to give Lialda another try. However, I started with a lower dose(i.e 1.6g per day). Much to my surprise, I was able to tolerate it. After about a week of 2 tablets (1.6g), I upped my dose to the three tablets (2.4g) originally prescribed. I have not had any issues with the drug since and it seems to very much help me. The one thing I should also mention is that I drink a minimum of 100 oz of water a day. I believe that also is a big help. I have it in my head that it is helping to constantly flush my system out. I, like everyone else, am still learning what works and what doesn't. I will continue to share but keep in mind what works for me may not work for others. Last thing I would share is that one of my go to foods when my symptoms are bad is peanut butter toast with a bananna. White Bread!

My stomach is so bad my go to food is also peanut butter and toast I think I will add the banana.

My go-to food is a bowl of oatmeal. So much food I just can’t tolerate any more.

Funny, but I’m also drawn to peanut butter toast and banana on gluten free bread. I developed lower limb lymphedema 3 weeks after testing positive for Covid in July 2022. The recommended diet for lymphedema eliminates gluten, sugar, and white potatoes and rice from your diet. Once I did that I no longer had bloating. I’ve gained 60 pounds in 6 months, post Covid. Unfortunately gluten free and sugar free hasn’t helped me to lose any weight. It just doesn’t want to budge.
