Silent Reflux or LPR

Posted by cmdw2600 @cmdw2600, Jan 27, 2023

Has anyone been diagnosed with silent reflux or LPR? This is a condition where there is no heartburn, but acid makes its way to the throat. I have had a sore throat/throat irritation for over two years.

Would like to treat without PPI and do what I can homeopathically.

I have been diagnosed with “silent reflux” as they have found stomach germ in my lung. I have never taken medication; I’ve had to make some lifestyle changes and diet changes to reduce the occurrence of it. I have never had any felt symptoms. I could share some how I treat it if you are interested.

I am going to the GI tomorrow. Can you recommend any specifics that I should ask about in regard to silent reflux or asthma and reflux?
Thanks in advance.

I am interested also. How did they find the stomach germ in your lung? (My mom is on her third hospital stay in 1.5 months ...they think it is aspiration but she is not aware of it). Wonder if they can do the same test that you had to discover the germ. Thanks

I have a good friend who was diagnosed with a bacterial infection in his lung and it has made him quite sick with no energy. he looked into treatment and he was told that it is very difficult to treat and he had to live with it. he wouldn't accept that and did some research and saw more specialists. he was told that the only place where he could have treatment was the Jewish hospital in Denver. he has since been there and had tests for 10 days. They were able to identify 2 separate bacterial infections and he is now on several antibiotics for weeks to kill the first infection. After that is cured he will be on intravenous injections for a year to kill the other bug.
I don't know if this is the same problem that you are talking about but this information might help somebody . Hopefully your Mother just has acid reflux but it sounds odd about the lung bacteria.
Good luck

I have bronchiectasis and MAC disease in my lung so I am required to send sputum samples in regularly. That’s when they are able to detect it.

I have silent reflux, Mac and Bronchiactisis. I used to cough a lot but since I started the Big 3/Nebulizing 7% Sodium Chloride/Levabuterol, Autogenic Clearance and bought an elevating bed, it has really helped. I became very strict with my diet by only drinking low acid coffee, no food after 6:00, cut out spicy and fried foods, carbonated drinks (except for an occasional Diet Dr. Pepper) and no alcohol. I took PPI's off and on for years to no avail so I quit completely and can really see the changes 100%. I am going to NJH in May and can't wait!

You can diagnose LPR (respiratory or silent reflux) via a transnasal scoping done by an ENT. A low acid diet, alkaline water, Gaviscon Advance are some of the tools you can try to address it. You can get more details at Dr. Koufman's web site: https://jamiekoufman.com/. At this link you can read about a person's consult with Koufman: https://www.reddit.com/r/acidreflux/comments/x16q1h/lpr_i_paid_500_to_talk_to_dr_jamie_koufman_so_you/. I am doing several of the recommended things, and also am experimenting with putting alkaline water drops up my nose. My postnasal drip is getting better. Still have periodic sore throat but am only 2.5 weeks into trying this advice.

After trying traditional medicines, homeopathic methods and dietary changes for the past nine months with no effect, I will be having the Bravo meter implanted via endoscopy this Friday. My new GI doctor, who is a good listener, explains that we need to know the PH of my digestive tract in order to best treat what I have felt to be silent reflux resulting in chronic sore throat. But it could be low acid, who knows. I will report back after having this device in me until early next week.

Hoping this will be helpful to others. Cindy
