Anyone else diagnosed with acoustic neuroma, a benign brain tumor?

Posted by Tracy Lynne Daley @tracylynnedaley72, Jul 23, 2015

My name is Tracy Daley. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. My diagnosis is a jumbled mess that I am sorting out right now. Can anyone tell me if anyone in this support group has been diagnosed and/or treated for acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor affecting the acoustic nerve, which is the eighth cranial nerve in your brain? This nerve is connected to your ear. These tumors initially affect a person's balance and hearing and then other symptoms may appear. This is a very rare tumor and one out of 100,000 people and 8-9% of the intracranial tumors. If no one has heard of this tumor, I understand.

Was not able to reach Mayo by phone so I sent an electronic request.

Fabulous. Have you met Dr. Bendock before, @rose4622? You can really see his kindness and knowledge come through on our video Q&As, like this one:

Go to this page https://connect.mayoclinic.org/webinars/ and use the search term "Bendok" to see the other Q&As that he's done.

That is wonderful, @rose4622 ! I'm so glad that all came together for you on Nov. 1st.
How is your eye feeling now after using the meds and the patch?

Yes, Dr. Bendock did my craniotomy. He is awesome! My eye is a little better. It may take some time. Dr. Weisscopt resectied the tumor. He is an ENT surgeon. I'm going to try to see him too.☺

My eye feels better when the patch is on but the patch greatly affects my balance. I went shopping with my daughter today and when I got out of the car I went backward instead of forward. My daughter caught me just before I fell over on some rocks and took me into the house to my chair. Now that was scary!

Oh, I'm sure it was frightening, @rose4622. Covering one eye would put you off balance to some extent. Please be careful until you get to see the doctor on November 1. I'm hoping that he will have some answers for you. Take care!

I'm hoping the eye is better be for the trip to Phoenix. I have been looking forward to bedtime the last few hours and its here. Just put the salve in my eye and put a new patch on. Soon I can take my pain meds and hopefully sleep. I've been getting around 5 hours a night most nights. So tired of all of this!
