Is this RLS (restless leg syndrome)?
I have been a member of Mayo Connect in other groups too. I am trying to find out if the symptoms I have in my muscles is connected to anything I already have been diagnosed with.
Also, would it be a Rheumatologist or Orthopedic Dr. That I need for this? I asked the Rheumo and they said it's nothing that they handle. But I would think they would because it feels like muscles.
At night while relaxing, my legs get restless, want to tense up, like on rubber bands. Then my right arm, just my forearm starts to feel the same. Then it makes me put my hand into a "claw" as it intensifies.
Any clues anyone?

Lyrica has been wonderful. Like I take 1 200mg capsule every night. My knees do not have the extreme pain I experienced before. Maybe one time this month I had some mild jolts in my legs but nothing like before. Plus Requip can cause hyper sexuality, gambling addiction, and a personality change, hallucinations etc.
All that is gone now.
That's funny! I used to count to 7 before he kicked again. He always denied that he kept me awake, even though he had already started kicking at the age of 20 . I discovered that on my honeymoon in 1960. Once I woke him to find out what in the heck he was doing in his dreams and he said he was running!
We ended up with separate rooms and still were married for 58 years.
Hi! I don’t have RLS myself, but I did just pick up a tidbit recently that is fascinating.
Low iron levels in the body (as measured in the blood as a ferritin level) have been show to affect RLS. People with RLS are recommended to maintain iron (ferritin) above a certain level. So, what might be a normal level for many people might be too low for someone who has RLS.
I would say it is worth asking about your ferritin level (or getting it measured) at your next visit if you have RLS!
I have RLS and have taken medication for it for 5-6 years. I will definitely have my iron checked. I sleep terribly because of it.
RLS is a neurological condition but your primary care physician should be able to take care of it. There is a condition also that affects your arms as well , i cant remember the name of, i think its called periodic limb movement disorder. I have had RLS all my life, worse as an adult. I took Requip for awhile and it quit working, so now been on Mirapex for several years and it works well.
When Requip quit working for me, i started taking Mirapex and havent had to up the dose at all, still on lowest dose. Also i take a 5mg Ambien.
That’s what I presently take is Arequipa. So far it works😀
I am so sorry for anyone who has RLS, and/or PILM. I have found that 2000 mgs of Vitamin D mostly controls the RLS. And meds such as Ambien and Benedryl are triggers for RLS and PILM. When the Vitamin D doesn't keep the issue controlled, I take 100 mgs of Gabapentin which seems to have no side effects for me but does handle the issues allowing me to sleep.
My Mom had both issues as well. It would start in the evening when she was watching TV. She would stand behind her chair to get relief. I wish I knew then what I know now about how awful this syndrome is.

Yes, it sounds as if you are experiencing the same symptoms that I can have and have had for years! Restless Leg Syndrome! I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I went for years without sleeping, tried everything suggested. Finally my doctor put me on pramipexole, 1 mg tablets. I take 2 each night one hour before bed. Finally, I can sleep. I still have breakthrough of the symptoms, however, they are manageable.
Hope this helpful!
Is it 2000 mg or 2000 I U that work for you? Big Difference , thx! I have a horrible problem with crazy nerves in my feet, and it keeps me awake at least three or four nights a week, especially after I’ve been very active. Thanks!
