Diagnosed with pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in my lungs

Posted by smokeycat442 @smokeycat442, Jan 3, 2019

I haven't had any success with many antibiotics including 3 weeks on a IV of Zosyn! Does anybody have any suggestions? What about the antibiotic Ceftazidime? I'm sure that this is one antibiotic that I have not been prescribed by my doctor. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@rits

It took me forever to find this and I wondered and wondered why it wasn't posted so I'm glad that I finally found your post. I had to go into my profile to see if I actually wrote and posted or was losing my mind. Lol.

As I said I did search and found the previous replies but I didn't find them helpful or I wouldn't have posted. I know what the treatments are and I am fortunate to being able to be treated by a top expert in the field of lung organisms, Pamela McShane at Tyler, Tx. She got rid of my MAC in 2 months and we have an amazing rapport. My general pulmonogist at the U of Chicago defers to Dr McShane re bacteria. But thanks for the suggestion.

What I was looking for was input from other patients, e.g. Terri, who recently stopped treatment which she took for years due to side effects.

All is good. I will discuss it with Dr McShane in a few weeks and ask her why she doesn't want to treat immediately which is what she did with MAC.

Dr Mcshane is terrific and I understand why there is a wait list. I saw her when she was at the U of Chicago. She transferred to Tyler Texas in order to see more ntm patients because her interest is in bacteria rather than asthma, copd or other diseases of the lungs. I hope you get an appointment soon.

Thank you for reaching back out! Did she treat you for CF or Non CF Bronchiectisis? Do you still see her?

Non cf bronchiectasis. She cured my mac infection in 2 months and kept me on antibiotics for another year. I have pseudomonas and we tried treating it but the drugs for it are inhaled 2 weeks on and two weeks off or a month on and off. My bad lungs won't tolerate anything inhaled into them so we're not treating it except for airway clearance. I send sputum samples to her 3 or 4 times a year and have had video appointments. She left Chicago February 2020.

How are you?
I have pseudomonas in my eye 2 years. I worry about taking antibiotic fluoroquinolones

A heavy growth of pseudonomas aeruginosa in my lungs. I have idiopathic pulmonary disease. Right now, the pseudonomas aren't causing a problem. I can't take levaquin or probably cipro, the only oral line for this. But can I continue to take other antibiotics for other conditions--Bractrim and minocycline in my case--without stiring the pseudonomas up to cause trouble? Thanks.

That would be a question for an infectious disease Dr. Or pulmo who specializes in MAC or Pseudo infections.

I believe the nigella sativa (Black Seed) may assist along with Hemp and palmitoylethanolamide

what are these and why do you suggest them?
where do you get them?

Did the lab do a susceptibility study to see what drugs will kill it? Just got results from Jewish Nation and I have pseudomonas Oryzihabitans on top of mycrobacterium lentiflavin. Having trouble getting my pulmonologist here in Jacksonville to prescribe anything.
