Anyone else experience Weight Gain with long COVID?

Posted by RMS @rinadbq, Oct 8, 2021

I have had ~30 pound weight gain since November 2020 when I initially had COVID. It seems disproportionate to my calorie intake. Any one else with this?

I still wonder how chromyln sodium nasal spray would work over a steroid.

I’ve been doing 3 to 3.5 mph on my treadmill four days a week for 40 minutes since January and I’ve actually gained 10 pounds. Crazy

I had covid in June 2022, it wasn’t particularly bad and recovered in a week.
Since that time I gained a stone, I started watching what I eat more and it seemed like anything I ate showed up in my weight. This was very unusual for me, as usually I’d loose weight fast. It felt like someone turned my metabolism off.

So I am currently battling covid round 2, and as if my metabolism was switched back on. I am at home laying around eating carbs and all kinds, and I’ve lost weight!

Before you all start with “your body was in starvation more” no, I have literally tried everything when I struggled with my weight.

Weird if you ask me…

Ha! If second round of covid would switch my metabolism back on… I’d risk getting it again as nothing seems to be working 🙁

I had similar experience! I normally weight train 5 times a week and do 45min. cardio twice a week. In Feb I added 30min. on a training bike 5 times per week, not changed anything in my diet or daily steps (keep track of both), kept up with my regular gym & cardio routine…. And put on weight! That’s really frustrating 🙁

I’m really not sure what it was for me, but I’ve lost half a stone in a week. I have been staying in bed resting a lot and eating foods that is not particularly diet food.

It’s really bizarre and I’m questioning everything we know about covid right now…to be fair I do like a good conspiracy theory!

When I was post covid - first round - I found that eating less carbs helped a little…also bought some vitamins that help get rid of excess water but as soon as I stopped taking them the weight would go back even higher. 😳

2 years post covid and with long haul symptoms I have suddenly gained 21 pounds - Dr's have no idea of what triggered this and I have been on lasix to loose the " water weight gain". I am an active very fit 61 year old male. has anyone else had similar issues

I was diagnosed with Long Covid two months ago. I had a horrible case last July. Within five months, I gained twenty pounds: Unexplained in areas I've never carried weight. I've gained 30 pounds total since July. While I've never considered myself a vain person, the change in my physical appearance has been very challenging, as well as dealing with my awful brain fog, headaches, and coordination issues. I'm an active 43 year old woman and have never been this heavy in my life (even during pregnancies.) I also wasn't experiencing peri-menopause symptoms before having Covid. Anyone else experience this?

May I ask your age? Were you active beforehand? I'm right there with you!

I had very mild Covid in January 2022. My only real symptom was fatigue. I have since gained 30 pounds and climbing. Nothing has changed in my diet or exercise routine. My doctor has been running labs every few months because my cortisol levels are so high which she is contributing to my weight gain. I have never struggled with my weight ever. I'm only 5'1" tall and went from 125 to 155 in 8 months. I seem to be holding steady at 155 but can't lose weight no matter how hard I try. Since my doctor can't figure it out I'm searching for answers myself and hopefully can figure out how to reset my body since having Covid.

Me too! I'm an active 42 year old female. The weight has just piled on. No activity changes. And the weight is in places I've never had it before. Did the doctor give you any advice about lowering your cortisol level? I'm so sorry about all of this. I completely understand. For me, it is almost worse than my brain fog. I literally look like a completely different person. It sucks.
