Is there a way to prevent diverticulitis from recurring? Is there a change in diet that can help heal the colon issue that causes it?

Thank you so much for the tip. I am taking Metamucil, 1 dose per day but I haven’t tried the butyric acid. I will do some research and give it a try when I’m done with this flare up.

My doctors’ nurse has bouts of diverticulitis and she gave me great advice. When you feel an attack coming on cut out all roughage.
Stick to fluids, no dairy except a good probiotic yogurt. Be gentle on your tummy until the symptoms subside. Drink lots of water is the key and never allow yourself to get constipated. Mirolax if you do. I was eating all kinds of healthy roughage and taking Metamucil when I was having an attack. It made it worse. Once I started the kindness to my tummy routine I improved rapidly. Hope that helps.

The best way to keep from getting more diverticuli is to prevent constipation by taking adding fiber and magnesium citrate to your diet each day. Licorice Root is lubricating to the intestinal wall. What you definitely don’t want to happen is Diverticulitis which is inflamed Diverticuli.

Thank you, for those ideas. Was on high fibre until latest flare up. I haven’t tried liquorice root. Appreciate the suggestion.

I take Meta Mucil every day. What is GTalt immune butyric acid. I have diverticulosis and some days, I'm fine. Some days I have severe pain on my right side like someone is stabbing me. Doctor said it's forever, but it's gotten better than a few months ago, but some days it's so very painful. Is there no way to get rid of it? I now only eat fish or chicken, certain vegetables, and vanilla ice cream.
I would love to know how to get rid of it. My body is so tired from it.

Thank you for your comment. I have had to resort to antibiotics when things have gotten really bad. The Butyric I’m still looking into with a pharmacist friend of mine. It makes me hopeful reading some of the research around it. I will update you when I know more.
