Promises of improved kidney function?
Is anyone aware of the naturopath with Kidney Disease Solutions at Kidney solution.net. ? He is promoting a book and diet that participants say are successful in increasing GFR.

My diagnosis is fresh @ 2 weeks and classified as “atypical Igan” after 4 months of wild goose chase . Now, We have a good dietician , Nephro and acupuncturist. Currently the acupuncturist researching on good iga immunological papers and accupunture and its meridian points. I am trying find good references or have her speak to fellow practioners to affirm her approach. She has had cases that improve proteinuria but has not seen igan patients.
Any pointers in that space would be helpful.
@sarah82 . It’s quite interesting to experience the mind body connection with regards to BP. Trying to figure out how much moods affect the BP vs renin mechanism , is going to be a life long pursuit.

You have a very rare kidney disease as I have researched. I like holistic medicine and see an accupuncturist weekly, but I think your best bet is to have a plan with a nephrologist, one who specializes in igan disease. Why not get a 2nd opinion from the Mayo Clinic or similar source using a video conference with a qualified nephrologist. Getting to the bottom of this rare disease is more suited for a nephrologist than holistic approach or acupuncturist, in my opinion.
I would like to know how this is achieved, is there any reference material on this matter?

Not sure how things are going for you but did you look into kidney stones as cause of decline? Fixable with acupuncture too but fyi

I'm not familiar with the resources you mention, but I was able to raise my gfr from 52 to 62 over a period of 9 months, just following doctor's orders.
I am 74, have no diabetes history, not high BP history, am not obese or overweight.
Dr advised me to drink lots of water, daily, about 50 ounces. NO ASPIRIN or nsaids; no added salt to food. Stuff myself with fruits and vegetables.

I’m in the very early stages of chronic kidney desease diagnosis, just saw nephrologist this week, I’m in stage 3a so it’s a watch and see thing. I saw post about potassium levels to high, I’ve been given no directions except to avoid salt and check blood pressure. I have hypertension. Any diet advise would be appreciated
@hakablue Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Good for you, wanting to step up and be proactive in your kidney health! There are several discussions within this Kidney and Bladder support group that you might want to take a look at, that has to do with our diet regimen.
The basic premise is to cut back/avoid salt. Watch your sugar intake. Watch for foods containing high potassium, phosphorous, calcium. Make sure you get enough protein but not too much; it can be difficult for our kidneys to process. Eliminate NSAIDs like Alleve-type products. Tylenol-type products are okay.
Some of us have additional health concerns that we need to modify our diets for. This can create a challenge, definitely! Also, check to see if medications you are currently taking have a side effect of possibly causing kidney concerns. If so, you might want to check with your medical team about moving to something else. Get moderate exercise.
Has your medical team been able to explain to you what to do for your hypertension? I expect others may also tell you their experiences, but increased physical activity, less stress, losing weight, etc. come to mind. Does your team feel this is the cause of your kidney issues?

I am 85 at Stage 4 GFR of 28 for the past year...staying the same because of Diet changes.
Per my Doctor I was advise to do the follow which has worked for me
I am on the following diet:
Unnder 2000MG Potassium
Under 2000MG Sodium
Under 50MG Added Sugar
Under 135 Carbs
Total Protein of .6 -.8G per weight in kilos...(EX 200 lb div 2.2 = 90 .9 Kilos x .6 = 55G Protein)
No Soda, No Alkaline water...I only drink Hydra Water, Green Tea or Corn Silk Tea. I use stevia as sweetner. You can buy hydra water bottle on Amazon fo $50-$75, worth it
The aforemention comes out to about 1500 cal per day for me, I was 242 Lbs and now 196.
I track ever food value daily by spread sheet. I try to eat all organic which helps to learn and eat correctly.

I am sure you are doing what is best for you.
For me, with GFR of 55 and Stage 3, I keep my potassium down to 800 per day and sodium down to 800 per day. Calories at 1,100. So far so good. 80 year old male.
