Anyone else experience Weight Gain with long COVID?
I have had ~30 pound weight gain since November 2020 when I initially had COVID. It seems disproportionate to my calorie intake. Any one else with this?

Is there a lymphedema clinic near you. I was diagnosed with lympdema 3 months after I tested positive for Covid. No swelling during Covid, but 3 weeks later, swelling started in my feet and ankles, moved up to my calves after a few weeks. When it hit my knees it started affecting my mobility. The lymphedema clinic is OT’s and PT’s trained in lymphedema. They were an answer to prayer. I use a graduated compression pump daily for an hour from my toes up to my upper thighs. It helps keep the swelling down.
I had very mild Covid in January 2022. My only real symptom was fatigue. I have since gained 30 pounds and climbing. Nothing has changed in my diet or exercise routine. My doctor has been running labs every few months because my cortisol levels are so high which she is contributing to my weight gain. I have never struggled with my weight ever. I'm only 5'1" tall and went from 125 to 155 in 8 months. I seem to be holding steady at 155 but can't lose weight no matter how hard I try. Since my doctor can't figure it out I'm searching for answers myself and hopefully can figure out how to reset my body since having Covid.
i too have been bloated and have eliminated sugar, white flour...i don't do any alcohol, i started weight watchers and have lost 17lbs since december of 2022...the weight is coming off really slow, sometimes i will have a gain of 2-3lbs the next day from a weight loss ...it sucks, it's like i have to do it all over again that takes 2 to 8 days...because of covid my body does not want the weight to come off....i did not eat to gain tha weight to begin with...hang in there, we can beat this !!!!
Hi, I’m so sorry. I also feel desperate to get better. I’ve been doing biofeedback and it gave me a bit more energy and something to work on. It’s not an overnight cure but it’s something.
I was put on paclovid due to asthma.
I ended up w ulcer and lost weight.
So sorry your going through that did it mess up your hormones?
Also how’s your thyroid?
Mine acted up after covid
This is my story almost down to a 't'! Had very mild COVID at the beginning of July 2022 and since then my weight continues to go up. Nothing has changed in my diet or exercise, if anything, I'm now eating less than before! I track my food, strength train in the gym 5 times a week, cardio on 2 other days, daily steps averaging 11-12k.... and the weight continues to go up. I now eat the amount of calories that a year ago I'd be losing weight on and now I keep gaining at a pace of around 0.5 pound per week! In 9 months I've put on 20 lbs and it's not stopping! That's what terrifies me the most! Blood tests came OK, hormones, thyroid... all good... The doctors don't seem to think it's important, they probably think I'm just stuffing my face and lie about not eating more than before. Or they say it's normal as I'm getting old... It's not normal! I know my body. I've got all the data from years of tracking and I'm 100% sure the problems only started after covid. Any time in the past when I put on weight at least I enjoyed lots of yummy food but now.... I feel like I'll need to start starving myself to try to stop this weight gain. I'm feeling so frustrated, disheartened and depressed. Just ready to give up and dive head straight into a chocolate fountain with a cookie jar for company cause what's the point of eating healthy and exercising is my weight continues to go up for no reason... May as well at least enjoy all the food that I'm currently not...
i know exactly how you feel...
Thanks... It gives me some comfort to know I'm not alone in this and there are others going through the same thing. It proves I'm not crazy, I haven't made it up and it's the doctors who don't treat it as seriously as it deserves to be treated. I wish they had some answers on what's causing this crazy weight gain and how to stop it. I wish we didn't have to go through this feeling misunderstood, belittled, patronized or even fat shamed.
So I’m not at a point where the “weight” isn’t going up aggressively fast (I was experiencing a 1-3lb fluctuation overnight) but it’s not coming off either. I’m feeling so defeated and trapped in my body.
Finally, I have found a PCP who will listen. All my tests come back normal bit I am bed ridden with brain fog, nausea and fatigue. I have terrible night sweat. It has been 2 years now. I am getting very depressed. I don’t know what I did to deserve this. I do not have family or children and just think maybe I am not going to make it some days. My husband is 70 and has had a stroke but tries to help me by grocery shopping. I just need to know this will go away. I just started to have “windows” of feeling like I use to and really good. Then they fade. Sad. Scared. Alone.
