Anyone taking Flecainide or Multag for arrhythmias?

Posted by dbug7857 @dbug7857, Mar 8, 2021

My EP put me on flecainide about six weeks ago 50 mg twice a day and recently upped it to 75 mg twice a day. Every time I take the flecainide about an hour or so later I go into a fib and I think the flecainide is causing it. I want to stop taking it but not sure how to wean off. Has anyone else had this problem?

I would really appreciate any thoughts anyone may have on Flecainide or Multag for afib. For about 18 months, I have been having afib events, lasting 5-8 hours (only at night) which occur about twice a month. I’ve been taking Metoprolol 25mg and Eliquis twice daily. My doctor wants me try one of these to try an prevent the episodes and then take me off the blood thinner because of another issue with that. Thanks for any input you may be able to share!

I asked my doctor after my brother told me about his positive experience with Eliquis.

I've had Afib since 2007 and have been on flecainide from the beginning. It controls my afib extremely well. Occasionally I have only minor fluctuations in rhythm that last for only a beat or two, then back into regular rhythm. I'm very happy with flecainide. I have no side effects with it, do not have to take it with food, and it's a cheap drug. Am also on Eliquis - that's the drug that is a killer on the wallet.

Thank you, this is very helpful for my concerns.

My Doctor just put me on Flecainide for my PAC and PVC
Is this medicine really safe? I read a lot of negative comments on it

Kat, how long have you been taking flecainide? Any improvements?

I have used flecainide for over 15 years for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, both as a daily preventative and at higher dose, "pill in the pocket". My cardiologist said it is safe as long as accompanied by a dose of beta blocker. It has worked for me! At the highest dose there may be sparkly lights in the periphery of visual fields, and balance may be impaired. It isn't necessary to go to that dosage... Ann

Hello. I took Flecanide for heart palpitations. A cardiologist prescribed it. Worst thing i’ve ever taken in my life. It causes abnormal EKG’s & Right Branch Bundle Block in my heart. I wasn’t feeling well after being on it for several years. Had a EKG & Dr came running in and told me to quit taking the flecanide. I still have PVC’s & dong see him anymore.
I would not suggest taking that med. Can also cause Seratonin syndrome if you are on any antidepressants
good luck

Saw a physiologist yesterday.
Of course they tried to talk me into an ablation which I am not to keen on doing for a variety of reasons.
We settled on me taking flecainide.
Wondering does anyone take it too.
And what your experience with it may be.
Thanks

I had an ablation two weeks ago, and after my follow up visit and a 24 hour Holter, I was started on Flecainide to treat not my AFIB, but residual arrhythmias that evidently persist. My EP said I might only need it during the "blanking period", which is several months post ablation. The surgery was four and a half hours under general anesthesia, so I don't think it is unusual I still feel pretty listless, but no worse because of the Flecainide I don't think No better either though, but it is still early, so we'll see.
