What helps improve osteoporosis without medication?

Posted by imatine @imatine, Dec 4, 2020

Hello, did anyone here try to heal from osteoporosis away from all the prescribed medications we all know of? Did you try following a specific diet? Excercise? Meditation, etc. ? Thank you

No it is not radioactive. That has been a source of confusion. Strontium 90 is radioactive but that is entirely different from the strontium taken as a dietary supplement for bones, which is not.

Thank you windyshores. I feel now safer and better. Shall think about using strontium too.

There are other issues with the supplement, strontium (therapeutic dose is 680mg daily). It distorts DEXA results, making bones look denser, because strontium replaces calcium in the bones and is heavier.

In Europe, strontium ranelate, which is a prescription drug, was taken off the market for a bit due to cardiovascular concerns but is available to those who cannot take other drugs and don't have risk factors. You can research this. I do not know and I don't know if anyone knows whether risk was from the ranelate added or from the strontium.

Finally, if your bone density loss is signficant, strontium may not work fast. Ask your provider!

I’m trying to settle this conflicting information I have gathered. Maybe one of the mentors who have an in with Mayo Clinic could chime in if you have heard something to clarify this, or anyone. What is the best level that your blood level for Vit D should be with osteoporosis. My endocrinologist said between 30-50, information from Algae Cal company say between 60-80. ????

Mine is low 50's. Doc seems pleased. I know there is controversy about how high is too high. Hope a mentor can chime in!

Your doctor is in business to care for you and keep you healthy. Your endocrinologist has special training in blood chemistry, and knows what the appropriate vitamin and mineral levels should be for you, with your particular health in mind.

Algae Cal is not a physician, but a for profit company whose aim is to make the most money possible. The only way they can do that is to sell more product.

All published recommendations for Vitamin D levels by NIH, AMA are between 30-50 ng/mL. I know who I would trust.

More about Vitamin D - more is not always better.
Vitamin D is not water soluble, so the excess is not simply excreted in urine. It can build up in your tissues over time, causing unpleasant side effects. This can also cause hypercalcemia, where there is too much calcium in the blood, increasing danger of heart disease.

Too many supplements, or too high doses over a period of time, are not necessarily harmless as many people believe. They can cause symptoms as above, and interfere with normal body processes, or with prescribed medications.

Are your levels of both Vit D and calcium being monitored regularly?

Thank you for that. I appreciate your input. I have been asking to have my Vit D checked periodically, and my calcium level is routinely monitored at my annual physicals.

The Brand of Collagen I use is Native Path. I researched several collagen brands and found this one to be the most based in science. The website is very helpful for getting you started. I hope you have success with it! It is really helping me.

Hi - Have you had a BD scan since to show if it is effective? Wanting to go this route...

Yes! That’s me. I was just about to take Evenity for my Osteoporosis of the spine but I chickened out for more than one reason. I’m 62 years old so I don’t have Medicare yet. Evenity was going to cost me $2300 a month ( my insurance will only pay $300) In addition to that, I have read about the side effects and I became so worried that I was no longer sleeping. I decided to hold off on the Evenity for now. I am going to OsteoStrong and also taking a low dose estrogen cream & progesterone. I also eat right, take my supplement and exercise daily. Hoping for some improvement on my Dexascan in November 🙏🙏🙏

hi dmanduca,
I'm thinking about the Marodyne LiV, but hesitate because of the cost. How long have you been using it and have you had a DEXA since then that shows improvement? Or do we need a trabecular bone scan to see results?
I'm taking Fosamax now, but would like to use as many treatment modalities as possible to decrease my fracture risk.
Thanks!

Hi mistea,
I would encourage you to purchase the Marodyne LiV. I have had mine for about 5 months and use it twice a day for 10 minutes. I can feel the difference in my strength from using it. Check out Margaret Martin for more information on the device. She interviews the scientist, Dr. Rubin, who invented the Marodyne LiV for astronauts to use to regain their bone density. You may also be able to get a discount through her site. I have two of Margaret's books and have watched many of her videos. She has helped me so much.
My bone density DEXA scan showed my spine at borderline osteoporosis. I declined to take the prescription medicine. That is why I purchased the device. My husband uses it also, even though he does not have osteoporosis. I am not due for a repeat scan until 2024, but am considering paying out of pocket for another one to be done sooner.
