Has anyone used CBD oil for chronic pain? And do you have results?

Posted by rensacb @rensacb, Jan 22, 2019

I'm a chronic pain suffer of 35+ years. Scoliosis is the culprit. Not a disfiguring curve but non the less painfully destructive. Almost every disc is bulging from 3mm to 6mm. I've had 2 spinal fusion. C 3-7 and L 4-5. Have 4 nerve root impengements with spondylosis in some areas and stenosis at interval from neck to sacral. Take steroid shots when I can with positive results for a few weeks. Always have Norco 5mg/325 ready if needed. Unfortunately I have found the best way to keep pain down is to lie down. So most of my days are spent on my bed. Any suggestions?

@artscaping I read the AZ Medical Cannibus Info. It looks a bit complicated but doable...right now I am trying Kratom and Phenytoin topical. CBD will be my next trial if these do not work for my burning feet. As I mentioned I just went on Cymbalta so I want to see first how these work for me. This condition just started abruptly a couple months ago so I have not gotten to the point yet where the pain is unbearable...but it probably will be based on posts from forum participants...Thx Pam

I’ve started using CBD cream 800 mg once a day for arthritis pain in my hands. I’m only 63. It really helps. Got it at a health food store. Alternate with Volatran per my pain specialist doctor.

For goodness sake, try CBD capsules. I take 2 Hennepens capsules daily. And have you tried medical marijuana? You certainly should. Good luck! You'll soon feel better.

I use the same two treatments. CBS oil does seem to help. I also use Voltaren. I'm 80 y/o have arthritis, osteoporosis, and Squamous cell carcinoma. I am pleased to hear someone else is using the same treatments. Thank you for your post. rosrebud++12

CBD does not cut the pain for me. Cannabis at night helps

It's better to take the CBD oil orally as it goes directly into the bloodstream and not through the digestive system where it may be acted upon and takes longer.

I would think being stationary is the worst thing for a bad back. I have a home exercise program from my P.T. that I follow religiously and walk 2 miles day. I take narco 325mg maybe 3x month but mostly use high CBD (1600mg/day) oil tincture and low THC vape and tincture.

I have no information on the effectiveness of any treatments. It sounds like you have it pretty bad! I have bulging discs and had a laminectomy l5s1. Your situation seems worse.

The only advice I have is to spend time looking at the science behind the medication or treatment you are considering. Anecdotes from other's singular experiences are famously unreliable. A controlled study is really required to have a good idea of what may work for you. You don't need special knowledge to do that, just look at the conclusion or summary from a study. If that doesn't work for you I would ask your doctor for the scientific evedence supporting the treatment.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!

Hi @cantab, This is not true. It describes how a tincture not oil does its first past under the tongue sublingual application. Oils and tinctures do in fact go through the digestive system and process through liver enzymes. First pass occurs with tinctures under the tongue, not oil or edibles. this is described to state it enters the blood steam faster under the tongue 35 percent faster, but the rest goes through digestive system. This can stay in the body over 11 days. Combinations of drugs, or alcohol can cause damage to the liver. I take half a mg of 20-1, and question daily use. Recommended dosages of a dropper full seem way out of line over time to me. Good thing is tinctures made with alcohol extraction unlike oil kept in a cool dark place, can have limitless years of shelf life. Go slow, skip a day, use as needed is how I roll.

Hi @cantab, Actually there is a good amount of truth that yes it is better more effective taken as a tincture sublingual. First pass represents that your GI tract doesn't destroy the raw medicine delivered this way. Some with allergies may have trouble with tinctures. Everything orally eventually goes through the liver. In the case of drugs like CBD THC is they create theca CBDA after leaving the liver at a 10 times factor. This is why people freak out a few hours after eating edibles. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) , CBD could potentially cause liver damage. During its review of cannabidiol (Epidiolex), a drug containing CBD to help treat seizures, the FDA noted that higher doses of CBD that a person takes without medical supervision could lead to liver injury.
