It's better to take the CBD oil orally as it goes directly into the bloodstream and not through the digestive system where it may be acted upon and takes longer.

Hi @cantab, This is not true. It describes how a tincture not oil does its first past under the tongue sublingual application. Oils and tinctures do in fact go through the digestive system and process through liver enzymes. First pass occurs with tinctures under the tongue, not oil or edibles. this is described to state it enters the blood steam faster under the tongue 35 percent faster, but the rest goes through digestive system. This can stay in the body over 11 days. Combinations of drugs, or alcohol can cause damage to the liver. I take half a mg of 20-1, and question daily use. Recommended dosages of a dropper full seem way out of line over time to me. Good thing is tinctures made with alcohol extraction unlike oil kept in a cool dark place, can have limitless years of shelf life. Go slow, skip a day, use as needed is how I roll.

Hi @cantab, Actually there is a good amount of truth that yes it is better more effective taken as a tincture sublingual. First pass represents that your GI tract doesn't destroy the raw medicine delivered this way. Some with allergies may have trouble with tinctures. Everything orally eventually goes through the liver. In the case of drugs like CBD THC is they create theca CBDA after leaving the liver at a 10 times factor. This is why people freak out a few hours after eating edibles. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) , CBD could potentially cause liver damage. During its review of cannabidiol (Epidiolex), a drug containing CBD to help treat seizures, the FDA noted that higher doses of CBD that a person takes without medical supervision could lead to liver injury.

@cantab, Just wanted to thank you for your post. Helped it defines why CBD is less effective for some and works great for others. It's not just the product quality, strength, and dose you need to consider. As well as the company it's the delivery you choose. I use Stanley brothers Charlotte Webb strain as they are the leader in the CBD hemp industry. I found this site after researching fist pass. So thanks again for post which in part is true that is goes into the bloodstream first. https://purecraftcbd.com/blogs/news/what-is-the-first-pass-effect-how-can-i-outsmart-it-with-my-cbd
