I'm worried about taking statins and side effects
Hi, I am 69 and just started taking statins two months ago for cholesterol and I am now noticing dents in my calves and near my knees. I am concerned and worried about taking statins and wondering if anyone has these type of permanent like dents whether taking statins or not. Just don’t know if it is a typical thing that happens with aging or if there is something seriously wrong. I do not have pain but suddenly noticing these dents has me a bit scared! Any feed back would be great!! Thank you!

@kolady1, I take Niacin (B3) as part of my neuropathy supplements and I think it helps my cholesterol numbers a little but I think you should discuss it with your doctor first. Here's some information from Mayo Clinic.
"What impact does niacin have on cholesterol? Niacin can lower triglycerides by 25% and raise HDL cholesterol by more than 30%. Triglyceride levels over 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L) have been associated with a higher risk of heart disease."

Thank you.
Niacinamide is some what better than straight niacin. Less flushing and may help my osteoarthritis and non melanoma skin lesion.
Taking 125mg a day.
Will discuss with Doctor in a month.

1 ReactionI asked my doctor about niacinamide in addition to the atorvastatin I was taking - his answer was "absolutely not."
His answer may be influenced by my lack of side effects on atorvastatin and the rather remarkable job of lowering LDL (and relationship to lower triglycerides).
I was allergic to statins, as a result I experienced awful pain in my arms. My heart doctor was able to get me a prescription for Repatha at a greatly reduced cost. I inject myself every two weeks and now my numbers are terr
Are you having less tinnitus symptoms by being on a statin?
I tried statins because my carotids were blocking. I tried 2 of them and they did lower my cholesterol. I couldn't stand the side effects, so I stopped. I tried Repatha and was allergic to it. Then I tried Nexletol and Zetia which, like statins, I could take for a while, but then got the severe body aches and cramps like I had with statins. I just stopped those. The pharmacist suggested pitavastin, which many people can take with no side effects.
My side effects for everything went away after 2 or 3 days. They were not long lasting at all. I was afraid too, but I am glad I at least tried. The only thing that was very scary was the allergic reaction to Repatha, but I am allergic to quite a few things and my allergist had told me I could take 4 zyrtec, which I did and my mouth numbness went away after a few hours. I have an epipen just in case.

Daily vitamins like magnesium, vit D and k is good
I’ve been on them for probably 10 years now and never had any problems with them. And my cholesterol levels are always low.
