I'm worried about taking statins and side effects
Hi, I am 69 and just started taking statins two months ago for cholesterol and I am now noticing dents in my calves and near my knees. I am concerned and worried about taking statins and wondering if anyone has these type of permanent like dents whether taking statins or not. Just don’t know if it is a typical thing that happens with aging or if there is something seriously wrong. I do not have pain but suddenly noticing these dents has me a bit scared! Any feed back would be great!! Thank you!

My doc suggests lowering my simvastatin dose. There appears to have been a raging debate for years over the adverse effects of statins. Does anyone know the latest "accepted" research on this issue and what bad effects have been documented? Especially those related to brain health? Links online?

The above link comes from the Mayo Clinc website and discusses the risks of taking statins.
When I started on Simvastatin my doctor put me on lowest dose, 10 mg. Granted my levels were not real high then and it has been keeping my levels good with no side effects. Eileen
I also had problems with taking stations & had so many concerns. I did a lot of research & found that Bergamot lowered cholesterol. I asked my Dr if he was good with taking me off stations and allowing me to try. When we did the next blood work in 3 months, my total cholesterol was down more than 35 points! Near perfect! I continue to take it and have had no bad side effects. Might be worth your looking in to. Here is a link about how it helps. Best wishes for good health!

Hi, I started Crestor about 3 months ago and was very hesitant as well. So my doctor had me start at 5mg every other day. I also noticed dents in one on my shins and chalked it up to getting older (65). No side affects that I can tie directly to the statin. So I just started taking it daily and hope you can tolerate them, as well!
