cpap record of usage hours

Posted by rfries @rfries, Nov 5, 2020

When I remove the mask during the night, how much time do I have before the machine closes the session for the purpose of reporting? For example, can I amass 7 hours of usage by using the mask for 4 hours followed by 1 hour off followed by 3 hours on?

I just got my ResMed Friday. The first night I had no internal vibrations and it said 8 episodes. Saturday night it read 2 episodes but I had internal vibrations again. Medicare will pay for the machine and I'm required to use it at least 4 hours within a 24 hour period and after 13 months, I will own the machine. I'm using the nasal cpap. My pressure is set at 4. I got it solely to try to help the vibrations since after sleep study I didn't have any for a week and a half. The tech told me I didn't really qualify as a patient with sleep apnea. I don't snore, wake up gasping for air, get sleepy during the day and the pressure is as low as they'll go.

CPAPs generally require some experimenting to get working ideally. Pressure setting, mask type, warming temperature, humidity level all come into play. Some experimentation and adjustment may be necessary.

Second, it can take a while (like upwards of a month) to adjust to using one, so patience is advised.

Last, keep who prescribed it informed as to what is happening (even though they can see the reported machine's telemetry) so they can advise/suggest changes.

Hope that helps.

Yes I've already done that. My pressure is at 4 because I have very mild case. Of course I'll see the doctor that prescribed it. I have a follow up. No vibrations last night.

Why does my Resmed machine record I got up 3 times, but I got up just once.

My Resmed machine detects when one shuts the machine off/turns it on, not when I physically get up.

You might be inadvertently/unintentionally shutting it off/turning it on.

I have mine located such that I can't turn it off without a conscious effort to do so.

No because I slept straight though for 6 hours. I got up once to go to the bathroom. That’s when I noticed my app said 3 times. When I turn on the machine and check my app already says one time.

I suggest you use it for a few more nights to see if that's a one time (freak) error or if it's something that happens more often.

If it recurs, that would indicate something goofy with that CPAP machine.

My machine continues to pump air when I take it off to go to the bathroom. It thinks that Im not breathing! I decided to shut it off and restart it when put it on again. I have it on autostart and autostop. I just check for usage and apneas. It's not a perfect algorithm, but does an adequate job for controlling my apnea. Good luck.

@me49 I am going to try turning off my Cpap if i get up during the night. The problem with that is mine has a ramp up phase before it goes to the regular setting . I reported to my practitioner that i am not waking up feeling refreshed and energized. She suggested I try taking extended release melatonin before bed.

Walk4life,
You can adjust ramp time. I had problems getting used to the mask. The ramp time was originally 20 minutes. I could fall asleep after an hour or more. My respiratory therapist told me how to increase the ramp time on my Airsense 11 to 40 minutes. That helped me to fall asleep during the adjustment period. I put it back to the original 20 minutes now. You can completely turn off the ramp, or set it for 5, 10 etc. intervals. Melatonin is a good idea, but it makes me too groggy in the morning, even at a low dose. I figure that I am producing enough Melatonin on my own. Your awakenings may be caused by apnea events, rather than a bathroom need. If you have a data card in your machine, it will record when your apneas occur which may give your practioner a better idea as to what's happening in your sleep. Best wishes for better ZZZ s.
