Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

@sheebacat

I did when I had a esophogus test. They said no.
But I want to recheck

Good idea. You can also try if eating non acidic foods only makes a difference. Could take a few weeks for you to see result though. Good luck!

Further to my acupuncture posts my results so far is that I sleep for more hours and wake up more refreshed. However monitoring the flask I must at some time in the night still need some warm drink to thin mucus, but not as much.
I can’t say I’ve cured it as it’s always there even if down to thin mucus and afternoon and evening it’s still really thick.

Thank you. I don't seem to have GERD, based on an esophogus scope last summer.
I have not heard of this Zinc spray. I'll check it out.

Did it go away and then come back? I had it during COVID, recovered a few weeks ago and now feel it again.

Same here....had COVID in October of 2020 and most recently in September of 2022. Since contracting the virus the first time, I've been left with constant post-nasal drip. I am currently taking 2 allergy pills and asthma medication....I've used inhalers and a nebulizer, but nothing really makes it go away. Some days are worse than others and at times it gets into my chest. It's not necessarily debilitating, but it sure is frustrating for me and for those around me to have to listen to my coughing/throat clearing all day.

I’ve read everyone’s comments about phlegm dripping down the back of the throat. I had a really bad case of Covid (after being vaccinated and then several months later got a booster ). And since Sept of 2022 I suddenly started a blockage of my sinuses and the constant chocking and dripping of phlegm down the back of the throat. Dr. tried 2 rounds of antibiotics with no results. Also attempted Sudafed, Mucinex, nasal sprays, Nedi pot, and numerous other products (including a CT scan that showed nothing). There are days my voice gets very horse. Now I am having hair loss!! I found a website about Long Covid symptoms with over 200 Covid Long Haul symptoms listed, and hundreds of people also are also suffering from these symptoms. And Drs. are unfamiliar of how to treat them so far. Hopefully, someone can find the answers because after months of this I am physically getting worn out! Any advise would be gratefully appreciated!

It is exhausting to constantly be thinking of this phlegm and how to get rid of it. Does gargling with salt water help? My throat feels coated with this yuckiness all of the time. I used to clear my throat and after several tries could feel it “break up” a little and I’d get some relief. Now that doesn’t work. It’s even hard to get to sleep. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did not realize that the phlegm was possibly Cvd related. I use Quercetin for relief and take one in the morning. If it continues, I take another at night. It is a natural supplement. Works for me......

Yeah the post nasal drip is awful. I'm 13 months in, it never seems to stop. Visiting another ENT later this month, first one simply said vasomotor rhinitis. But since its only coming from my left nostril and started after Covid I won't believe its rhinitis. Maybe it's inflammation in general or my body thinks it's fighting something that isn't there anymore. I'll update here after my visit. Now trying ipratropium bromide nasal spray, it's known to stop/dry out mucus. And I totally feel you, it wears me out as well. Daily life is nothing like before with this

Reading through this thread, it looks like no doctor has figured out why this is happening. There are some ways to treat the symptom, but none work well, and none point to the source of the problem. I agree with your assessment that it seems my body thinks it is fighting something that isn't there anymore. Hoping this gets solved sooner rather than later.
