Buttock/tailbone pain, sitting or lying down - symptom of PMR?

Posted by pacarolyn @pacarolyn, Oct 4, 2021

Has anyone experienced buttock/tailbone pain when seated or lying down as a symptom of PMR? Also, has anyone had labs showing elevated LDL-Cholesteral or anemia that wasn't diagnosed prior to PMR onset?

Yes, to the butt pain and anemia. Under my butt checks hurts when sitting on hard surface and going up stairs or hills. I was not anemic until I was diagnosed with PMR.

Yes, I experience the same pain in those areas as well as other areas not anemic thus far🙏

Yes, I also experienced similar pain..("sit bones" as we tell children )....but on steroids this improved greatly, and now is a general ache in the area, not the extreme pain that was present at onset.

My PMR comes and goes, but as to the sitting and lying pain which has become so much worse over the years, I was told by my doctor that this was not part of PMR, but due to degenerative joint disease due to arthritis. I just underwent trial for the Nevro spinal cord stimulator and it helped that pain a lot. I am currently awaiting permanent placement of the SCS.

Definite buttock pain when sitting. I have thick tailbone cushions everywhere and lying on a heating pad helps. Also get pain around rib cage. Do others get that? Will be adding methotrexate to help wean off prednisone.

I also have had sitting pain when first symptoms showed up. Once I started Prednisone it cleared up. After 2 yrs I am on 1.5 mg of Prednisone and sometimes I have a bit of that pain again. Nothing like at the beginning.

Wondering if anyone goes to a chiropractor to help with joint and muscle pains. I have pmr and giant cell Arteritis, scoliosis, osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disorder.
I am in the beginning of treatments and I’m hoping as they improve my spine I will feel some relief because of pinched nerves and disc issues.
When My spine is in alignment then they will introduce exercise and different things to help my muscles in those areas develop. They’re doing more than just adjusting my back. It’s a whole program that goes through treatments, building strength and recovery. I’m hoping it helps.
I’ve also started to do chair yoga.

I went to a chiropractor for help with neck pain that has been a part of my PMR since the beginning, but made much worse after a car accident. It helped a lot. After, I stopped stooping when I walked the rest of the pain in my body started to fade as my posture got better. Strength training should give noticeable improvement. You certainly seem to have a whole heap of problems to handle. Take what help you can find even if the improvement is small, everything helps.

Tailbone pain has been my main recurring problem with PMR.
It was also, along with shoulders the first symptom I experienced.
Temporary increase in prednisone always helps but it keeps coming back.

I have always had the buttocks and leg pain.
I have cushions that provide tailbone and buttocks relief; 1 in the car and 2 on chairs. They are available on Amazon.
