Is this RLS (restless leg syndrome)?

Posted by Darlia @darlia, Oct 14, 2017

I have been a member of Mayo Connect in other groups too. I am trying to find out if the symptoms I have in my muscles is connected to anything I already have been diagnosed with.
Also, would it be a Rheumatologist or Orthopedic Dr. That I need for this? I asked the Rheumo and they said it's nothing that they handle. But I would think they would because it feels like muscles.
At night while relaxing, my legs get restless, want to tense up, like on rubber bands. Then my right arm, just my forearm starts to feel the same. Then it makes me put my hand into a "claw" as it intensifies.
Any clues anyone?

I took .5 mg about 7pm and another .5 if that didn’t start to work. I took 4 mg at bedtime. So far weaning off the Requip hasn’t been too bad and going on the Lyrica. 200 mg. Time will tell if it works without breakthroughs.

I have rls along with the long covid vibration and use the doterra essential oil marjoram in a few drops to rub over the bottom of my feet and the back of my legs and it does work, but NOTHING stops the vibration.

Re: RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME. My husband had it. His leg shook and vibrated the bed at regular intervals. I could count to twenty then his leg would jolt and shake the bed. It was like waiting for a centipede to drop the next shoe. Eventually we slept in separate beds. His doc said medication to ameliorate it could depress him and he was already on an antidepressant. When I described this to my sleep specialist she said it sounded like REM behavior sleep disorder. Sorry, I wish I knew how to help you. Maybe see a sleep specialist?

I have a tip for Raye: My husband also has restless leg syndrome. I would lay there and count 10 seconds between each shake of the bed. Then we got a Tempurpedic mattress and the problem is solved. This firm, memory-foam mattress, amazingly, transfers NO movement between one side of the bed and the other. Also, it's a king size mattress which helps, as well.

This is not RLS. Get to a neurologist ASAP. You may need a referral from your primary care physician for it.

That comment from littleoak about seeing a neurologist was for Darlia. Sorry, I didn't make that clear.

Hi Colleen,

It’s a very busy day for me today. My post was about how one can help a spouse stop Bruxism. So it was related to sleeping comfortably together while helping the significant other save his teeth. Not RSL

HUGS TO YOU!

@maystamper Hello, I also have RLS and take requip. Can you tell me what dosage of requip you were on? I take 1mg twice a day and it just barely works. Does Lyrica work for you?
