I have Dupuytren's Contracture Disease . How can I cope with this?

@rosemarya Me friend who has Dupuytrens contracture has had her finger in a brace didn't help at all she had a injection I'm not sure what but helped a little she said .All this and her friend My Dr isn't any better .People are different in how they respond hopefully it will be better for others

My nodules are about same no contracture yet, but getting arthritis in my thumb👎🏻, ortho doc said they usually do nothing like you stated until you can’t flatten hand.

@rosemarya, since my injection, my hand has totally flattened out and become pain free. However, I now have a trigger finger which I did not have before. If the trigger finger becomes too bothersome, my doctor said they will go in and cut the ligaments causing the trigger finger.

If the ligaments are cut won’t to finger/s be unable to flex & contract?
There was no treatment for my Dads contractures but that was nearly 50 years ago. The doctors said the surgery would only open his hand, basically for cosmetic reasons only. No functionality would be gained through surgery. Are there newer procedures that help straighten out the fingers and regain functionality?
My Mom has a Contracture of her L hand, wrist and elbow. I have mentioned these injections to various doctors and pharmacists and none heard of them. They only mention Botox which is short acting. Personally I wouldn’t want that poison injected in me especially for something ongoing.
Has anyone had Contracture surgery?

Did your extension muscles work at all prior to your injections? Were you able to open your fingers even very slightly?

@jakedduck1, yes, Jake, I could open my hand almost totally, including my ring finger. However, it was very painful. In fact, it got to the point that my hand had a deep ache all the time. That went away within two weeks after the injection and my hand started to flatten out.

My Mom can’t move her fingers at all and the slightest pressure causes intense pain. Do you think these injections might help loosen up the fingers?

Does anyone know about any surgical procedures that loosen up the fingers without cutting the tendons and making the hand non functional or is contracture surgery still back in the dark ages?

Jake, They don't cut the tendons for Dupuytren's. The condition affects a layer of tissue that lies under the skin of your palm. Knots of tissue form under the skin — eventually creating a thick cord that can pull one or more fingers into a bent position. Treatment involves removing or breaking apart the cords that are pulling your fingers toward your palm.

Hi there,
I didn’t mean to imply my Mom or Dad for that matter had Dupuytren's contractures. I know there are numerous Contracture types but I’m not familiar with the different ones. I believe she damaged one or more nerves when she broke her shoulder but who knows.
