How did you manage the pain side effects of Prolia?

Posted by pine4234 @pine4234, Oct 26, 2018

I had prolia injection a week ago. I've developed lower back pain and severe spasms. The spasms are so bad I can hardly get out of bed or even out of a chair. Is there anything I can do or take to alleviate this awful pain.

@fearfracture, Good evening. Thanks for your reply. Although I am not a medical professional in any way........I do not have a response to your question about stopping Evenity. However, I understand the issue. Have I already given you the number for Amgen? Both Prolia and Evenity are their products. If you have questions about EVENITY® and would like to speak to a call center representative, please call 1-888-231-5663.

Please send a reply post so everyone will know the answer.

Good morning, Mentor,
Thank you for the Amgen phone number. I contacted Amgen a couple of weeks ago and spoke to a nurse who was interested in getting details of my experience with Evenity. Fortunately, I kept a detailed record of side effects. She was also interested in pre and post bloodwork. I happened to have the reports and read her any elevations/ lows in both reports. She also asked for injection lot numbers and the doctor's contact information. My point is to be organized when you call. I don't know what happens to the data, but this is the only way to give pharmaceutical companies insight into real life problems with their products.

Thank you for your response. I don't know if we are speaking the same language. My knowledge of how Prolia works does not include building new bone.

From the headline on website, I copied this introduction.
"Prolia® is an injection that works with your body to help stop the development of bone-removing cells."

Unless I am reading this comment incorrectly, Prolia does not create new bone. Interpreted as stated, it implies that Prolia helps prevent the development of cells that reduce bone.

While I am not here as a mentor to disagree with you as a member, I do feel that I must support the information that has been given to me to share with other members.

May you be free and protected from inner and outer harm.

Because you misinterpreted my statement, I apparently didn’t state it well enough. I wasn’t saying that Prolia builds bone but it repairs the process of bone regeneration so that we don’t lose more bone.

“Without
treatment
An excess of bone-removing cells in your body makes you lose bone faster than your body can rebuild it, putting you at risk for fracture.
With
Prolia®
Prolia® is an injection that works with your body to help stop the development of bone-removing cells.”

Thank you so much. I understand and agree with your statement.
That is exactly how it works.

May you have happiness and the causes of happiness.

Tylenol Extra Strength, but no more than 3,000 mg a day or you risk liver damage. I take 2500 mg a day and it helps quite a bit. The back pain will get better after about 4 months.

One of the bad things about all these drugs is that if you stop taking them the bone deterioration speeds up .

I’m amazed some don’t have pain with Prolia. The pain in my joints and bones is awful. I wonder why mine is so bad? Am I doing something wrong? Tylenol only helps a little bit. Two o’clock this morning I awoke with shooting pains in my jaw and ear. How do people function on this drug?

Both drugs give you back pain, but I think that Evenity gave me more joint pain than Prolia. You also have Evenity injections every month for a year (2 injections each time) - I think this is way too strong for most people.

I think that a drug that works with your body is better than one that adds extra bone. I always worry about accelerated bone growth and cancer. So many women contract this.
I had a small percentage of bone growth with Prolia and that doctor put me on Evenity that grows bone anyway. I don't see that point in doing that if you are making new bone, although, slowly.

My Doctor wants to put me on
Reclast I do not want to go on it. The side effects seem bad, it’s a one year
1/2 hour infusion.
Doe any one have any experience with it?
Can anyone recommend a safe medication. For osteoporosis
Thanks
