How did you manage the pain side effects of Prolia?

Posted by pine4234 @pine4234, Oct 26, 2018

I had prolia injection a week ago. I've developed lower back pain and severe spasms. The spasms are so bad I can hardly get out of bed or even out of a chair. Is there anything I can do or take to alleviate this awful pain.

I was on Prolia for 6 years and did not have noticeable side effects. No pain.

I m now on Evenity which you can only take for one year. I’m 71 and I can get it cheaply through Medicare Part B (not D) and my medicap supplement. Other options are crazy expensive. I’m not sure what happens after that.

I’ve been on Prolia since December of ‘22. I haven’t had any pain but I recently experienced some mouth ulcers. I get the mouth ulcers from many different products but I didn’t associate them with the Prolia. I believe they are from something else I recently added to my diet. I had been on Evenity for the previous year with few issues. Prior to that I had tried numerous other products either w/o success or numerous side affects. I’ve read other people’s comments to help avoid side affects that encourage drinking a great deal of water to exercising following the injections. Maybe we can help each other find ways to counteract the drugs that seem to be our best solution.

Prolia was nothing compared to Evenity with joint pain. I was on over-the-counter pain meds within months of taking Evenity. I'm going back to Prolia.

I transitioned to Evenity which gave me considerably more joint pain. I'm going back to Prolia after 5 treatments.

Good evening @hsum4. I certainly respect your decision to return to Prolia after encountering pain with Evenity. You are aware, I hope, that Prolia does not build new bone. Evenity builds new bone..........

Please protect yourself from an unpredicted outcome.

Good evening @nhorn, I am checking on members in this group to make sure that everyone knows that Prolia does not build new bone. It protects bone that is already there. These are really tough decisions. I am 80 years old now and have had quite a struggle. Please know you have my concern and best wishes.

Prolia prevents loss of bone by balancing the natural process of bone loss and re-building.
