Post Hysterectomy bleeding.

Posted by rose53 @rose53, Jan 10, 2023

It's been over a year now since I had total hysterctomy after being diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma uterine cancer. I've been following care every four months. I did not undergo chemo or radiation because there were no visible spread to other area. Today I noticed blood in my urine and it's causing me alot of anxiety. Can this be a recurrence of cancer. It takes me back to the day I was first diagnosed. Has anyone experienced this before after their surgery?

@rose53 I am so sorry I missed your post and so did not respond quickly. I think I might not be getting notifications as I did in the past so I'll report that.

It's been almost a week since you first posted. I would be very frightened and anxious if I experienced this. I realize blood in the urine could come from many different things but for those of us who were treated for uterine cancer it's very scary this is where our mind goes immediately.

I had a recurrence in October, 2021, that was found during a follow-up appointment. I was shocked but within a day I got right on all the tests and treatment plans to treat the recurrence (radiation therapy was recommended) and having a plan helped to calm me down.

Are you still seeing blood in your urine? Have you seen your doctor or messaged or called your oncology team? If so, I hope you were seen very quickly. Have you learned anything else about the bleeding that you can share?

I am sending you a virtual hug, positive energy, and healing prayers, Rose.

Thank you Nature Girl.
I called my care team asap at Mayo. They advised me to first check with my family doctor for a possibility of UTI since I am out of town (5) hours away. I do have a follow up appointment on the 26th that was already scheduled for my four months follow up. I do have a history of kidney stones so I'm praying and hoping it's caused by it. My urinalysis does show blood in urine but no bacteria. I haven't heard from my family doctor to give me evaluation. I will keep you posted. Kind regards.

@rose53. I've been thinking about you and am so glad to hear that you checked in with your team at Mayo. Sure, it makes sense to first be examined by your local doctor and get a first impression of whether or not this is a UTI or a kidney infection. Did you doctor send your urine sample to the lab? My family doctor told me that what a doctor sees in a urine sample at an office visit is only a first step. Anyone like you or me who have a history of UTIs and kidney stones (and yes, I had a huge kidney stone that I needed surgery to remove) should have their urine samples examined at the lab.

I am thinking of you and await your next post. Sending you positive energy, Rose. All my best to you.

Yes. It was sent off to lab via LABCORP and did culture. I will share results with Mayo.
Haven't seen doctor yet to discuss but taking antibiotics. No pain associated with this but could be stones. Will know more. Thanks. Will touch bases.❤

@rose53 Hello, Rose. I'm checking back to see if you have any new information. It's good that the urine was sent off to be cultured.

How are you feeling tonight?

Hello, @rose53 I've been thinking of you. I've seen your supportive and encouraging posts to some of the members in the Gynecological Cancer Support Group.

Have you received any information on the cultured urine that was sent in?
