Using CBD oil to help taper off anxiety & depression meds?

Posted by tundra @tundra, Apr 14, 2018

I am currently in tolerance taking 30mg a day of Serepax (Oxazepam). I want to get off the benzo and realize I have to taper after 15 years of being on it. Has anyone used CBD oil minus the THC to taper off benzo's?

I’m jumping into this conversation because of my love one’s experience with cannabis. After months of vaping cannabis (unbeknownst to me) my love one had a cannabis induced psychosis. He was a habitual user numerous times a day. His usage of alcohol increased. His aggravation increased daily as did the paranoia. Having the condition of bipolar compounded the issue. I won’t go into the details but not knowing what to do is by far the most upsetting. Someone in the medical field would have a better explanation regarding its use and the positive and negative effects of cannabis.
Our family’s observation of cannabis induced psychosis was painful. We are all in the drug rehabilitation and AA process. Keep the Dr. in the loop of your condition.
Wishing you the best and getting the best treatment available.

Greetings. I tried cannabis when it became legal in the state I was living in. I have been diagnosed bipolar, also in recovery, and several docs disagreed with the diangnosis and pegged me as having Major Depressive Disorder. In regards to cannabis, I ended up dependant upon it to lift my mood, but ended up severly depressed over 3 months time. My doctor told me studies showed it was not good to use in the elderly due to inducing psychiatric symptoms, compounding what was already present.

Glad to know your Dr was well informed.

I have suffered from chronic anxiety and panic attacks for many years now and it seems that I've only gotten worse over time and all those pharmaceutical drugs given to me throughout the years gave me worse side effects than what I was dealing with with my anxiety issues. The side effects were so bad with many of the pharmaceutical drugs that I could not take them. Six months ago I had a doctor prescribed medical marijuana and I also do the CBD tincture drops which have greatly reduced my anxiety and depression and panic attacks as well as reduce my arthritis pain and neuropathy pain I suffer from. I believe more doctors need to do more research on the true benefits of this natural herb, cannibis, because I do believe that the benefits of smoking medical marijuana and/or doing CBD tincture as well could be a lot better for the patient than all these pharmaceutical drugs that have horrible side effects. Sometimes I feel that our government fights very aggressively in legalizing things like medical marijuana and CBD tincture or one-to-one tincture drops because many people could grow this marijuana in their backyard and the government would not be able to tax it like they can tax alcohol etc. But more doctors need to investigate the benefits of medical marijuana and the tincture drops and I'm not talking about the gummies or the tincture that you may find over the counter at some of these CBD stores. I'm talking about an actual doctor prescribing you medical marijuana that you get at a dispensary

I’ve had the exact same experience with medication. I haven’t tried CBD yet, but my panic attacks have stopped thanks to one doctor who quickly recognized that my right side neck tightness and pain may be causing it. The vagus nerve responsible for fight or flight response may have been the cause. A quick 2 min nerve block injection did the trick, even if it was placebo im happy that it worked. I’m now tapering off medications because my experience with them has been awful! Constant dizziness. I would like to consider CBD for the few times I get the slippery slope feeling of anxiety coming on. I’ve had very good luck with American skullcap (floral herb) for anxiety from muscle tightness and spasms before going to bed.

Skullcap helped me a lot getting off benzodiazepines. Granted I was only taking lorezopam for 4 weeks, so coming off was easier, but I’m particularly sensitive to any of these medications. Skullcap was a saviour as it acts on gaba receptors as well. It gave me a similar tuned down effect as lorezopam did, minus the addiction or withdrawals. It doesn’t make me drowsy or sleepy, but when I’m ready to sleep, it helps me fall asleep faster. I’ve safely taken skullcap for 2 weeks and gone without it for 5 days without a single problem or symptom of withdrawal. Since then I take it 2 days and then I skip 2 days, without a problem. When I skip the 2 days, I drink chamomile tea. I read some research on skullcap before taking it, it doesn’t work on the addiction causing gaba receptor. I’m now considering CBD, as I have a lot of muscle tightness and get spasms for a few years now and figured CBD might help me tackle 2 birds with one stone. Also, it’s completely legal where I live (Canada).
