Does anyone have experience with Mirtazapine?

Posted by faithshouse @faithshouse, Jun 20, 2019

My husband has trouble staying asleep, and falling back to sleep when he awakens during the night. It concerns him, but we wouldn't say that he is depressed. He had heard about Mirtazapine for sleeping. His doctor prescribed 15 mg. Has anyone had side effects, or depression while taking Mirapine? Is it more for depression, than for sleeping? Thanks for your feedback.

I’ve had awful insomnia over the last several years. Was relying on lorazepam for sleep (prescribed for anxiety but no longer need for that) but am weaning from it. Tried lunesta but can’t be on that long term and trazadone affects my liver enzymes.
Would like to hear others’ experiences with mirtazapine. Tried for the first time last night (7.5 mg) and knocked me out but very groggy today. Thanks!

Update: took last night and did not sleep well

I was prescribed 15mg mirtazapine but told to start out with 1/2 tablet. The pharmacist told me with this med, lower doses work better for sleep. The 7.5mg did help me sleep through the night but I felt totally drugged up for 3 days so never took it again. I'm taking 100-150mg trazodone and it helps me fall asleep but I wake almost every 2 hrs through the night and sometimes have trouble getting back to sleep.

I also want to let people know that they can find user reviews for any medication at the Drugs.com website. For example, enter "mirtazapine for sleep reviews" and look for the Drugs.com website. It's very help information. There's a cross reference where you can get information on other drugs prescribed for your condition, with user ratings on effectiveness.

My husband has trouble staying asleep so he received a prescription for 10 mg Mirtazapine. Seems like all the info shows lots of side effects, etc. does anyone have any comments on this drug? Thanks!

Is weight gain from increased appetite or from the drug itself?

I took mirtazapine as well and it did not help me sleep either! Just made me very depressed actually. Also was hard to get off of after a month.
