Something has helped clear my mind of fog

Posted by rsfcowgirl @rsfcowgirl, Jan 4, 2023

I've been suffering what we refer to as "brain fog for over a year. I had improvement with a short course of steroids 6 months ago but it was short lived. Someone recently gifted me NAC supplement with information+ I've been taking 600 mgs 2-3 times a day. This formulation is compounded with molybdenum +selenium. I noticed an improvement very quickly. I have clearer thinking, better short memory, improved executive functioning and higher tolerance for less than ideal sleep. I can concentrate very well now. And my overall mental processing is faster. I'm more verbal now. It's been a change that had endured for several weeks. I'm had no other changes in anything. Just this.
My experience is subjective and there's no way I can claim this supplement is the catalyst for improvement. It could have been an improvement just bc of time. My results don't *prove*- but since there are no side effects or contraindications that I know of, I'm continuing to take this, along with several other supplements.
I just wanted to pass this along. It's inexpensive and if people are just experimenting, this may be something to 'try.'

A word of caution. After reading these responses I started NAC 600 mg one tablet in the am. After taking it the next morning I developed the worse headache I have ever had. Ended up in the ER and 7 days later still have a frontal pressure headache. To have an MRI of my brain tomorrow. Would encourage others to check with their providers first before taking any supplements. They are not regulated and studies show some have had dangerous chemicals in them.

Hi @mecfs, I’m so sorry to hear about your reaction to NAC! It’s frightening to have that experience after only one dose. I hope the side effect is only temporary. It’s possible that your reaction was coincidental to the taking of the NAC and not caused by it drug, but either way, I really hope you get to the bottom of this headache and pressure!

Thank you for sharing this cautionary advice with the forum. It’s important to note that supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA and can pose health risks…and to always check with health providers before taking them!

Wishing you a clean MRI tomorrow. 🙃 Keep us posted, ok?

I want to thank you for that PSA that you sent it's a great word of wisdom I myself over the course of just the past 6 weeks have had them write prescriptions and rewrite prescriptions because they will prescribe something and I will do my research when I get home and if it's something that gives me concern I'm not going to take it and I would not be taking something that someone else had told me to use if the doctors don't feel safe. So nice of you I really am praying for you for your test tomorrow may God heal you quickly

Thanks for sharing. If it’s not too much asking, which of your supplements additions you think work together the best for improving your mental performance (cognitive, fatigue, brain fog, focus) thanks again

Hi. I take many supplements. I have other medical problems too + those may be a reason I don't take some supplements that may be very helpful for Long COVID or brain to high fog/sub performance in general. Also I eat a healthy, non adulterated diet + have low environmental toxicity. I'm mentioning that bc I believe these factors are directly relevant to healthy brain+ overall body function.
Here are my supplements today:
Taurine 1000 mgs /day
Phosphatidyl Choline 1200 mgs day
Zinc25-50 mgs/day
NanoCur - nanotech curcuin- 600-1800/day (AM+ midday)
VitD3 10,000-15,000 IU /day. One gelcap may be applied to area of post Covid psoriasis which reduces/ eliminates flare
CoQ10 100mgs/day
VitC dissolvable 500 -1000 mgs/day
Mega B vit- 100 mgs each twice/day
B12 sublingual 5000-10000mcg/day
Magnesium 250 mgs 1-2/day
Lion's Mane - fruiting body- 1000 or more per day
Several different high colony count multi strain pre + probiotics/ day
Green/black tea thruought day
Reishi mushroom supplements
Plant protein + organic whey protein supplement
5HTP occas at night
25 mgs Benedryl/night
Occasionally- Ibuprofen or ASA (low dose)
Mineral Salt- I've added this to my supplements to raise my BP. It's low.
Esp when standing.

I've noted that I can't handle stress. So avoiding stress is a priority for me. Part of reducing brain cognitive problems.

Hi. I had not read this whole thread. For some reason, I stopped getting into on responses, etc from this subject.
Mayo Clinic, would you prefer if I didn't post any info on supplements, alternative modalities etc? I'm not trying to promote anything I am doing for self help + if it's potentially in conflict with the best interest of the readers I'll gladly keep this information of the board. Also, feel free to delete any+all posts of mine you would rather not have up. No notice even required.
