Irritated and itchy skin with no rash

Posted by 1953 @hopeful1953, Oct 20, 2022

Has anyone experienced itchy skin in one area that travels to another area in a line. I thought it might be shingles. There is great pain inside my body’s underarm. A swab sample was taken in the ER. The test turned out negative for shingles. This condition started about 3 week after my positive test for COVID. My Dr ordered a script for neurontin which has calmed the pain. I have had this condition for at least 5 weeks.

Yes, only on my arms and legs and where I scratch I get bruising which looks awful. I am not sure which caused this, from having Covid or from the vaccine. I have seen doctors, been prescribed creams and steroid creams with only temporary relief.

Hi @mollymm. This very strange itch and rash seems to affect most post covid patients Ive communicated with. Since covid is different for all of us, this seems to present differently as well for each of us at different times, types, and areas. I started with large 1”round and 1” deep painful/itchy bumps on stomach, then small bumps on legs that oozed crystal like hard substance that radiated over weeks up whole body areas, then extreme hot red rash around neck with again large 1” round/deep bumps painful hip joint/ back of thighs/foot/ back/shoulder/ and neck throat area where the bumps actually protruded inward so far caused horrible gagging. Now ongoing upper chest and neck very itchy with sandlike granules and sometimes rash sometimes not with one crystal like small bump just appearing left under lip and on same left hip again. Very frustrating. Suspected multiforme erythema and dermatologist appt finally next week. Hopefully some helpful info from that I may share!

@mollymm I had a cold just before Christmas, my husband did too and he had been with a friend who tested positive a couple of days later, nor my husband or I got tested. My itching started right when I first had symptoms of my cold, I thought it was flees, I experience it before, but I got no bumps, no nothing. My skin now takes turns on where to itch. Lower legs and feet mostly, but also inside of my elbows, fingers, toes and sometimes my head. I live in a very dry climate, so I lather myself with cerave cream and I still itch. Maybe I did have COVID and I am experiencing long COVID? But, I read another post of a woman who realized that it was stress. I experienced a case of sudden deafness less than 24 hs. after I got my last booster combined with the flu shot, that was in late October, I woke up after a nap and I was deaf, so who really knows what caused what. I am now a candidate for Cochlear implant. So it could be stressed as well. I am not feeling well today at all, now my legs are aching all over and I can hardly go up the stairs. Any ideas from anybody? I am a sister and daughter of physicians and they hate when I go on line to look to be diagnosed! LOL

It is difficult to sort out if these symptoms are due to Covid or not. I am appreciating hearing from others and just getting some comparisons and ideas. I haven’t really found anything that helps with the itching. It seems so random as it skips around as you suggest. I try not to scratch or rub the area. Sometimes a cold cloth on the area helps. If not, I work to distract myself with an enjoyable activity. Best wishes to you.

MY ITCHING WAS SO BAD ALL OVER 48 HRS. BEFORE I GOT TESTED FOR COVID THE FIRST TIME. ITCHING FROM HEAD TO TOE, I WENT ONLINE TO CORNELL CONNECT, NY HOSPITAL FOR A TELEMEDICINE VIDEO. AND THE DOCTOR GAVE ME 50MG. ONCE A DAY FOR 5 DAYS OF PREDNISONE WHICH IS A LOT BUT IT DID THE TRICK.

Me too. It appears to have affected my skin everywhere and never know where or when it will show up. Face, arms, hands, torso, legs, scalp. even gums and eyes feel irritated. Hyper sensitive with redness, itching, rash or any combo and comes and goes whenever. So disparaging
