Traveling to NJH

Posted by busybeans @busybeans, Oct 27, 2022

I've just read that Omicron subvariants are resistant to key antibody treatments for those of us who are immunocompromised. Thinking that I'd had every booster known to man and that I was relatively safe, I made travel arrangements to fly to Denver to see my doctor at NJH instead of renting an RV as I have every six months since the pandemic began. Is anyone else traveling by air right now, or have I completely lost my mind? Your thoughts? I can always cancel...I have two weeks.

I haven't been on very much lately. I love this group but my computer has quit telling me when there are new notices so I have to remember to check! I finally have an appointment in April at National Jewish in Denver. Mayo doesn't except my insurance. My doctor will be Dr. Griffith. I will be there 7 days because I said I don't mind back to back tests. I live in Illinois but have family in Golden. Any insight on what to expect and any insight on Dr. Griffith? Thanks in advance.

Dr. Griffith is fantastic. You will be so glad that you went to National.

I started yesterday. It was a long day. Lots of tests. You will get a room to put your stuff in and hang out. I dont have Dr Griffin, I have Dr. Kasperbauer. First impression-loved her.

Everyone has a schedule set to their needs. My 1st day you are greeted by someone who gives you a general tour. Then financial office. Then ECG then Chest X-Ray then blood work and sweat test. Then you go to your floor and get vitals and meet your nurse and you are shown your room. From there people come to you getting history. A fellow came in a nurse then Dr kasenbauer. A respiratory therapist shows you how to properly use nebulizer with Aerobika. You also have a hearing and vision test.

2nd day I check in with Rn and my room & get vitals. Then went for CT chest, then PFT. Back to room and meet with respiratory therapy and use the nebulizer/Aerobika for 2nd sputum sample. Meet with kasenbauer to go over prior tests that are back and then met with nutritionist.

I will be going in April and was wondering where you stayed? I am looking for a safe and close place to the hospital.

We are staying at the Hilton Downtown Denver. It’s about a $10 Uber ride during the week except Friday. Friday was $19. It’s less than 3 miles from the hospital.

I am also going in April but I'm staying with family. They told me their website had places to stay with reduced rates.

When I went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester I contacted Mayo Clinic Concierge who were very helpful in finding me a hotel. There is an underground walkway to the hospital so you are not outside in the elements. I recommend contacting Mayo Concierge. Their phone number is 507-538-8438.
